Have your say on the relocation of Horsham Fire Station

Horsham OPE

The ambition to create a new fire station for Horsham and provide enhanced training facilities has been held for over a decade. The relocation will see Horsham Fire Station move to a site on the A24 at Highwood as part of the One Public Estate (OPE) West Sussex partnership.

This project will also deliver a joint blue-light satellite station close to Horsham town centre to provide facilities for an on-call fire engine and a public-facing front counter for Sussex Police.

We want to hear your views on these proposals. Visit www.westsussex.gov.uk/HorshamFireStation to take part.

REMINDER: New permit scheme launched at Household Waste Recycling Site

Household waste

From 1 October West Sussex residents who drive a commercial-type vehicle will need to have a permit to dispose of their household waste at County Council recycling sites.

The free permit will apply to anyone who uses a van, pickup or single axle trailer and will be available to West Sussex residents only.

The scheme is being introduced at all 11 Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRSs) and the two mobile sites.

In addition some vehicles will no longer be allowed to use the sites. Restricted vehicles include:

  • multi axle trailers (four wheels)
  • horse boxes
  • tipper trucks
  • flatbed or dropside truck
  • luton type vans.

For health and safety reasons all trailers will be banned from Bognor Regis and Littlehampton sites.

Leaflets will be handed out at all sites to individuals affected by the changes before the scheme is fully implemented on 1 October.

Residents can find out more on the website and start applying for a permit now.

We welcome your views – former Novartis site

Novartis

Come along to the Holbrook Club on Wednesday 26 September to find out more about WSCC proposals for the former Novartis site in Horsham.

WSCC is committed to ensuring this landmark site makes a significant contribution to creating and supporting new employment, providing high quality business space, and some new housing.

You can view the initial plans for the site, speak to members of the project team and give your feedback at the drop-in event. It runs from 4pm to 9pm at the Holbrook Club, North Heath Lane, Horsham, RH12 5PJ.

Fight against food waste

Kenny Tutt

Did you know food waste makes up nearly a third of the average rubbish bin in West Sussex? That’s the equivalent of nearly 20 rubbish trucks full of food being thrown away every day.

MasterChef Champion 2018 Kenny Tutt has joined forces with the West Sussex Waste Partnership to encourage residents to ‘fight against food waste’.

The campaign will provide advice on how to ‘be a smart shopper’, ‘freeze with ease’ and ‘love your leftovers’.

Keep an eye on the West Sussex Waste pages on Twitter and Facebook for more information in the coming months.
