1. Entering Actuals? Check Your Data! (FE only)
It’s that time again
when Free Entitlement providers are entering their Actuals information for the
autumn term. Please remember that as per the Provider Declaration and the actuals Help Guide, providers are responsible for
ensuring that data is kept up-to-date via the Online Provider Portal, including
children’s home addresses. Information submitted to West Sussex County Council
is later shared with the Schools Admissions Team, and any inaccuracies in the
child’s date of birth or home address could result in errors in the Schools
Admissions process.
Please check the data for
all children on your Headcount for inaccuracies and amend before submitting
your actuals information. The deadline for submitting your actuals
information is Thursday 27 September 2018.
Do you have children
who access Free Entitlement at other settings?
If the answer is yes,
then please ensure that you send us a copy of their Parent Declaration.
When there are payment
disputes between settings with shared children, it is the Parent Declaration
which show us who should be claiming which hours. It also shows us if they are
universal or extended hours.
Please proactively
send in your parents declarations for all split funding children as it could ensure
your payments are not held up in the case of any disputes. They are evidence of
the service you are providing the children in your care.
For any queries please
email free.entitlement@westsussex.gov.uk
3. Update your Termly Childcare Provider Update form
today! (All providers)
It’s good for your business to update…. even
if you’re full!
Please
submit an updated Termly Childcare Provider Update form via the Online
Provider Portal for
this term. For support to update your vacancies, see page 8 of the online guidance.
Reasons you
should submit:
It benefits your business!
- When
new businesses or housing developments are proposed in your local area we use your profile and vacancy
information to help identify if new early years provision is required. New settings may open unnecessarily if your
information is out of date and wrong.
- Your
information helps families find
suitable childcare for their children across the county.
-
Free advertisement on our website which receives, on average, just
under 10,000 hits a month.
It benefits families:
-
Families call us for help to find childcare that
meets their individual needs.
- One
of the biggest complaints the FIS
receives from parents is that setting vacancy information is wrong. It wastes
their time and is frustrating for
parents when searching for childcare. Our information is only as good as the information you can give us.
-
They use our website to find childcare. The details you provide help them to
make informed decisions on which providers to contact.
You should provide at least a termly update:
-
Update, even if you’re full. Updating is about more than just
free advertising. Out of date information can directly affect your business.
-
If
you have not updated your details in the last year we remove you from our public
list. This is to prevent a breach to the data protection
policy, which you agree to when submitting your profile update.
The new Early
Education and Childcare statutory guidance (March 2017) requires local
authorities to update setting information at
least once a term.
4. Prevent Training for Early Years
There
was a lot of media covereage last week regarding a Setting in Hove having their
Ofsted rating downgraded from Outstanding to Requires Improvement because staff
did not have knowledge of the ‘Prevent’ duty and wider safeguarding issues.
'Prevent
for Early Years Settings' is running in Chichester on Friday 21 September.
This
half day course is for Early Years professionals to develop an understanding of
The Prevent Duty and what it means for your Setting.
The
aim of this workshop is to:
- Raise awareness of some of the issues surrounding the prevention of
redicalisation and violent extremism.
- Identify potential opportunities where guidance or intervention may be
necessary.
- Raise awareness of how settings can implement the Prevent Duty.
Spaces
are FREE if you have joined the Training Subscription Scheme. If you have not
joined the Training Subscription scheme the charge to attend is £50 per place.
You
can book your space via the Learning and Development
Gateway.
