Consider a career in care

career in care

We’ve just launched our new care campaign in the Chichester area. If you want a career where you can get an enormous sense of personal achievement and really make a difference, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
As part of the campaign we’re hosting the following recruitment event, which gives you or anyone you think might be interested the opportunity to find out more.

Tuesday 17 July, Chichester Park Hotel, Madgwick Lane, Westhampnett Road, Chichester, PO19 7QL, 2pm – 4.30pm.

You don’t need to have any experience in care and don't worry if you can't attend the event, just visit www.westsussex.gov.uk/jobsincare as our team would love to hear from you!

Private Fostering Awareness Week (9-15 July)

private fostering

Are you looking after someone else’s child, or is someone looking after your child? If the arrangement is set to last for 28 days or more and you’re not a close relative of the child involved, it is known as ‘private fostering’ and the local authority should be informed so we can provide help and advice.

Examples of private fostering include:
• a child living with a distant relative due to a parent’s ill health
• an overseas student living with a ‘host’ family
• a teenager living with a friend’s family

If you think a child is being privately fostered, call 01403 229900 or email MASH@westsussex.gcsx.gov.uk

New West Sussex Care Guide

care guide 2018

Finding the right care options for a loved one or for yourself has often been seen as a challenge. A recent survey from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) revealed that 70% of adults responsible for finding care found it more stressful than finding a wedding venue or choosing a school for their child.

West Sussex County Council has published the 2018/19 Care Guide to take some of the confusion out of finding the right care. The guide lists the different types of care support available in our county and also has useful checklists.

The Care Guide 2018/19 can be accessed online and is also distributed to key locations across the county such as libraries and GP surgeries.

A rare find in West Sussex

declaration of independence

The authenticity of the Declaration of Independence discovered at the West Sussex Record Office has been confirmed by Harvard University.
The Sussex Declaration, as it has become known, is the only contemporary manuscript copy of the Declaration of Independence on parchment, other than the signed copy at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
The findings come after collaborations between the Harvard researchers with archivists, conservators and scientists at the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester, British Library, Library of Congress, and the University of York.

Black plastic can be recycled

recycling black plastic

We’re pleased to confirm that in West Sussex black plastic CAN go into your kerbside recycling bin – despite what you may have heard nationally.
In fact the colour of your plastic bottles and containers doesn’t matter; they should just be clean, dry and loose.
But the good news doesn’t stop there. Our partner Viridor has launched a scheme with three UK supermarkets to use recycled black plastics in new food grade packaging.

You can pick up some more advice on what can and can’t be recycled in the latest edition of West Sussex Connections (see page nine).

The heat is on

As many of us are enjoying the current heatwave it’s worth remembering to take precautions as very hot weather can have an impact on our health. Vulnerable groups, such as the very young, older people, and those with underlying medical conditions, can feel the effects of the heat more than others. Hot weather can also make heart and breathing problems worse.
We’ve put together some tips and advice on staying safe during the summer months.

Visit our website and make sure you’re well prepared.
