A Huge Thank You...
A local secondary school has sent some really positive feedback about their experience of working with Think Family and Early Help and the system they use, HolistiX. "I just wanted to email you and say how incredibly helpful we have found the process of HolistiX in supporting some of our pupils and their families. I have made a number of referrals using HolistiX and have attended many FSN panels, FSN events and TAFS. It has been reassuring to see the same faces at each event and start to feel part of a bigger picture and team."
Cathy, a SEN / Pastoral Assistant also goes on to say, "In all honestly, I am not sure what we would do if we did not have HolistiX and the teams that are triggered to work alongside our pupils and families. It can be quite lonely in school because of the high expectations on us to find solutions for families who are struggling, so to feel a part of a team and start to build positive working relationships has been an enormous support. I would also like to say a big thank you to Lawrence Reeves who has patiently supported us over the phone, when we have felt stuck or needed advice."

Healthy Child Programme in West Sussex gets an outstanding result

Sussex
Community NHS Foundation Trust’s (SCFT) Healthy Child Programme in West Sussex
has received an outstanding result for Stage 2 Baby Friendly accreditation by
UNICEF.
To achieve this recognition SCFT’s Health Visiting and Infant Feeding
Teams have undergone a rigorous assessment process to provide assurance that
they deliver the very highest standards of care. SCFT received Stage 1 Baby
Friendly accreditation in July 2015 and were “highly commended”. Stage 2 of the
Baby Friendly Initiative assessment assesses the level of knowledge and skills
of staff that are providing breastfeeding support and care for pregnant women,
mothers and babies.

Feedback from the Healthy Child
Programme Stakeholder Engagement
“You Said …We Did” - Earlier this
year you and your colleagues and teams were invited to contribute to a
stakeholder engagement process for the co-design of the Healthy Child Programme
contract for West Sussex. We would like you to know how this progressed and how
your contributions were included and valued. The service specification for the
contract took into account all the comments and information we heard. The
slides summarise this and is our feedback to you.
We would
like to thank all our stakeholders for your time, your honesty and your
interest. We hope that
you will be able to support the mobilisation of the contract with the provider
who will be confirmed in December.
Please share
the slides with members of your team, school locality and colleagues who may
have contributed. Should you have any queries the contacts for the Healthy
Child Programme are on the final slide.
There is a substantial research
base on the significance of bruising in children. A bruise should not be
interpreted in isolation and must always be assessed in the context of medical
and social history including repeat presentations with similar concerns,
developmental stage and appropriate explanation given. A full clinical examination
and relevant investigations must be undertaken, following local and national
guidance.
It is recognised that a
percentage of bruising in children Not Independently Mobile will have an
innocent explanation (including medical causes). Nevertheless because of the
difficulty in excluding non-accidental injury, professionals should refer to
MASH where a social worker will arrange for the child to be examined by a
paediatrician.
A strategy discussion will also
be held with representation from West Sussex Children’s Social Care, Police and
a Paediatrician to inform further enquiry and action.

Think Family and Early
Help Performance
- Within Phase 2 (since Sept 2014) we have been working with 3,723 families with multiple, complex needs.
- We are currently achieving measurable improvements in the lives of 81%
of the families we are working with (through analysis of their ‘distance
travelled’).
- So far we have achieved success against national
criteria with over 950 families whose lives have been turned around, towards an
adjusted 2020 target of 3940.
Transformation Update
 Co-design in practice
We are continuing to meet at events and meetings to plan and shape how our new service will look. This photo is from the Wider Leadership Event on 18th November, where staff came together to discuss going forward what is working well, what we are worried about and what we would like to change.
Further updates on this transformation will be provided in the next newsletter in January 2017.

We have recently been working with our partners to develop two interactive resources that we would like to share with you. Both tools should be publicly available (Learning Gateway allowing) and be of use to multi-agency partners. The tools are:
Design Methods for Developing Services
If you are new to service design, a document has been produced by 'Design Council', looking at how you can use service design to familiarise yourself with a typical process that designers use when developing products and services. It will give you an idea of what to expect from working with a designer and share different design tools you may be able to use.

Family Support Network
(FSN) Updates
Chichester
and Arun
We
are pleased to announce that following her recent secondment to work with
colleagues in Social Care, Liz will be further developing her expertise and
knowledge by joining the Chichester Think Family Keyworking Team on a
secondment. Development
Worker support across the Chichester and Arun Districts will continue to be
provided by Tori Hunter. Building upon the well-attended and well
received Holistix workshops run in Chichester, Bognor and Littlehampton, Tori
will be extending support by offering monthly drop-in support sessions at
various locations. Initial dates and venues include: Midhurst Rother College
Friday 29th November and 10th January (9.30–10.30) and The Littlehampton Academy 9th December (10.00–12.00). Contact Tori
Hunter for details, Tori.hunter@westsussex.gov.uk.
Family Support Network Forum venue change - The venues used for the FSN Forum meetings in Arun will be changing – a move required to allow extended time to meet growing demand for cases to be heard. From the 28th November, the venues will alternate between the ‘FindItOut’ centre in Bognor Regis and the Wickbourne Centre in Littlehampton. Updated calendars will be sent to all Forum members.
Helpline
and email enquiries - A helpline service operates for all Holistix and general
enquiries on Wednesday and Thursday from 10am-4pm on 07872105457. For email enquiries or Forum requests, please email: ArunFSN@westsussex.gcsx.gov.uk
/ ChichesterFSN@westsussex.gcsx.gov.uk.
Adur and Worthing
Adur and Worthing are really excited to be piloting a new
response system that will combine FSN duty and HOP workers from across the
area to operate as one response team. Starting on 5th December, the
team will be co-located from the Wave Children and Family Centre with
Management support from Caroline Bucksey, Emma Bruton, Charlene Hornsey and Jon
Welch.
The response team will operate FSN duty from 9-4
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. This will support the wider network with
information, advice and guidance on cases, when to start Early help plans and
how to access additional support and oversight. The joint HOP system will
operate alongside duty supporting cases identified as requiring additional
support from a key worker at level 2 and 3 of the continuum of need.
To access additional support, oversight or advice and
guidance from the Early Help Response team call or email, 07841
867340.
