Switch to new Tesco access road coming soon
Visitors to the Tesco superstore in Wokingham will need to use a new access road from Friday 30 October.
The route will connect the store's car park to a new roundabout, via a new access road off Finchampstead Road.
It will also connect to the distributor road, which is due to open in the early part of next year.
The existing Tesco access road will be closed to vehicles and converted into a pedestrian route. The new access road also includes pedestrian facilities, which will eventually link with Footpath 25, between Finchampstead Road and Ludgrove Drive.
Upcoming night works
Motorists should also be aware of planned overnight works the following week.
From Wednesday 4 November, temporary traffic lights will be in place between 7pm and 6am for up to three nights while final surfacing, road markings and other finishing works are completed on the roundabout and new Tesco access road.
There will be four-way lights at the existing roundabout and two-way lights at the new entrance via the access road.
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout, although short delays are possible while vehicles are escorted safely through the work area.

New way for pedestrians to get around works
Remember, a new route for pedestrians is expected to open on Monday 26 October.
This will help people to get around our works on Easthampstead Road, as a new junction for the South Wokingham Distributor Road is built.
The temporary route will use part of the new distributor road before joining White Horse Ride, reducing the distance people currently have to walk compared with the existing diversion. It is expected to be less than half the length of the current signed route.
The usual access point south of the level crossing has been unavailable since April and the new route has been designed to help people get around the construction area safely while work continues.
Footpath 25 (Finchampstead Road to Ludgrove Drive) also remains on track to reopen by the end of October.
You can watch a video showing the route and find the latest updates on the South Wokingham Distributor Road project on the council's website.
Coming soon: changing junction to new roundabout
Work is due to start on the Peacock Lane project very soon, which will upgrade the junction of Waterloo Road, Old Wokingham Road and Peacock Lane in Wokingham.
The scheme will replace the existing priority-controlled T-junction with a new three-arm roundabout, designed to improve traffic flow and safety.
It will also include new shared walking and cycling routes, street lighting, drainage improvements and new crossing points to support active travel.
The approved design also includes a dedicated right-turn lane into Easthampstead Park and enhanced facilities for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the junction.
Dates and details about phases will be confirmed via this newsletter as soon as possible.
Designer bringing sports hub plan to life
We’ve appointed a design partner for our proposed outdoor sports hub at Grays Farm in South Wokingham, which we hope to seek planning permission for next spring.
GSSArchitecture are refining options for the 60-acre site off Heathlands Road, and we'll be seeking further input on these from sports clubs and other organisations.
Additionally, a cross-party committee of councillors will scrutinise the design proposals at a meeting on Tuesday 24 November.
We've had substantial discussion with interested parties about what provision is needed at Grays Farm, and several clubs have expressed an interest in using the facility or being based there. Early proposals include pitches, changing facilities, spectator accommodation, community space and more.
The hub will be funded by statutory contributions from housing developers, and possibly additional sources, and we're committed to ensuring it's commercially viable.
