Attend the Covid Memorial Woodland commemoration
You are invited to a short evening commemoration at the Covid Memorial Woodland on Thursday 27 August.
Created as a peaceful place to remember and reflect on the impact of the pandemic across Wokingham Borough, the woodland has been shaped by residents, volunteers, community groups, partners and council teams.
Much of the tree planting was supported through funding from the Woodland Trust.
The commemoration takes place from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, near California Country Park in Finchampstead.
The evening is planned to include an introduction to the woodland, a short reading and moment of reflection, a commemorative watering and time to walk through the woodland as the sun sets.
The event will take place outdoors, so please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
Everyone is welcome. People who helped plant the woodland are particularly encouraged to attend.
Help name a living willow caterpillar and win
If you've visited the children's play area at Dinton Pastures Country Park, you may already have spotted the giant living willow caterpillar.
The caterpillar has been carefully restored using traditional willow weaving techniques by Rangers, volunteers and local students and continues to grow as a living structure.
Now we're inviting residents to help choose its final name by voting for their three favourites by 31 August. We will announce the winning name in September.
The winning entry will receive a family visit to Dinton Pastures, a handmade willow tree grown from caterpillar cuttings and a family boat hire session at Dinton Activity Centre.
