Read to the Beat - Summer Reading Challenge
The countdown has already started for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
This year’s challenge is Read to the Beat! delivered by The Reading Agency in partnership with public libraries and powered by Universal Music Group UK. The theme inspires children to explore the connection between stories and songs, discovering how reading and music both ignite imagination and creativity. This year’s challenge is brought to life with illustrations by award-winning author and illustrator, Harry Woodgate.
How does it work?
Starting on Monday, 29 June 2026, children can sign up at their local Wokingham Borough library. The aim is to read six books over the summer. Children can choose their own library books, eBooks, or audiobooks. Their reading will earn them rewards and stickers.

 Woodley's 40th Birthday Celebration
Celebrating 40 years of Woodley Library.
Thank you to everyone who was part of our special day, reflecting on lots of wonderful memories. We had cake, and music from the brilliant Bandissimo.
Historically, the library was housed in the verger's cottage in Church Road from the 1880s, but we have been in the current site since 1986.
Our celebrations have also included special Storytime and Rhymetime sessions. Here's to another 40 years of serving the community!
Our Libraries offer more than book lending, we offer:
- Books, e-books, audiobooks and magazines
- Free IT and internet access
- Study spaces
- Adult events such as coffee mornings, history, crochet, chair yoga and book groups
- Children's activities, events, and story times
- Community information and signposting
- Support with reading, learning and digital skills
