Get around safely and avoid delays this Easter
Roads across Britain are expected to experience their busiest Easter since 2020 over the coming long weekend, so plan your journey.
Leave plenty of time to get there, check for any disruption on local routes or the motorways, and be fully and safely prepped for taking a longer trip.
Some airports are expecting their busiest Easter on record, so make extra sure to set off early if you're flying somewhere.
Thinking of walking or cycling somewhere local? Get loads of useful advice like maps and an interactive journey planner on our My Journey Wokingham page.
If you're planning to take the train, you can check for disruption anywhere on the network using the National Rail website. Delays across London aren't expected, but you can check for up-to-the-minute information.
You can also check out the Easter timetables for Reading Buses, Thames Valley Buses and Carousel Buses.
Lots of family fun opportunities coming up
You can meet our My Journey Wokingham team at a community event at Arborfield Green Community Centre between 2pm and 4pm this Saturday (4 April). There'll be free Dr Bike checks which need to be booked in advance.
As we've reported before, the team are also hosting a day of family cycling fun at their annual Easter Bike Bonanza on Thursday, 9 April.
This takes place from 11am to 2pm at the FBC Centre in Finchampstead and includes balance bikes as well as a bike obstacle course (bring own bike and helmet) and Dr Bike workshops.
Looking further ahead, there's the Lions Club's Wokingham Walk on Sunday 19 April - and don't forget the popular Wokingham Bikeathon on Sunday 28 June, which is now open for registration.
The Bikeathon is suitable for all ages and ability levels, with marshalled routes and lots of fun stalls on the event field at Cantley Park.
Watch out for new parking and waiting restrictions
You may see new double and single yellow lines appearing at various locations across the borough after we agreed them earlier this year.
We're now out painting in parts of Arborfield, Earley, Shinfield, Spencers Wood, Twyford, Wargrave, Winnersh, Wokingham, Wokingham Without and Woodley.
There'll also be parking bays with various restrictions including disabled badges only, limited waiting and no loading.
These restrictions have immediate legal effect, so please check on-site signage to avoid having to pay a Penalty Charge Notice.
Some of you have recently called or emailed to ask about urgent roadworks by utility firms. We'll always try to help, but utility firms normally have more information than we do. You can find their contact details on signs at the scene or by finding the works on our interactive map.
Community railway artwork wows awards judges
A group of residents who created a community artwork (see the finished design) for Wokingham station have won an award.
The participants, including some with learning disabilities, drew colourful designs on sections of toy wooden railway track. They arranged them on a big board, with other images and logos, to mark the 200th anniversary of Britain's railways.
Now their project has won the Creative Projects (Small Group) category in this year's national Community Rail Awards. The award was presented to the Wokingham Learning Disability Partnership Board, who coordinated the entry.
It was overseen by artist Jo Werrett, of social care provider Optalis, with input from members of the CLASP learning disability group. You can see the finished artwork on display in the station ticket office.
The scheme was supported by South Western Railway and the Southeast Communities Rail Partnership.
Optalis, CLASP and the Wokingham Learning Disability Partnership Board adopted Wokingham station in 2022 and have since created an Easy Read travel guide.
Earlier this year, Winnersh Parish Council unveiled a graffiti artwork at Winnersh Triangle station underpass, also marking the Railway 200 celebrations.
South Western Railway has been awarded top marks by British Transport Police for keeping people safe when travelling. It has achieved this for three years in a row, with measures including the rollout of body-worn cameras.
