Your guide to voting this May
Elections are taking place across the borough on Thursday 7 May.
18 seats on Wokingham Borough Council will be up for election, representing each of the borough’s 18 wards.
In Charvil, residents can also vote in a referendum on the parish’s Neighbourhood Plan on 7 May.
If you're aged 18 or over and registered to vote, you can vote in person, by post or by proxy (when you nominate someone to vote on your behalf). Voters in person must bring photo ID.
You can find full details on our website. Final lists of candidates and contested seats will be published after nominations close on 9 April.
Key deadlines to remember:
For the next few weeks we'll only be sending this newsletter on a Friday as we reduce the frequency of our newsletters during the pre-election period.
We won't be sending this newsletter on a Tuesday until 5 May, where we'll provide you with everything you need to know ahead of the local elections on Thursday 7 May.
During the pre-election period, there are specific restrictions on council communications. We’ll go back to our normal sending schedule in early May once the elections have taken place.

 School choirs take centre stage
Nearly 800 children from Wokingham Borough schools have had the chance to perform in a professional theatre. The Wokingham Area School Music Association (WASMA) performances were held at The Hexagon over the weekend of 21 and 22 March. The theme for this year was ‘Radio WASMA’ and took inspiration from the DJ Johnnie Walker's BBC Radio 2 show, including its well-known 'Johnnie's Jukebox' feature. The audience were able to tune in and suggest tracks to be added to the WASMA playlist. Now in its 79th year, WASMA has grown from a handful of schools in Wokingham to a borough-wide programme. This year saw 33 primary schools take part, giving hundreds of children the chance to perform together.

Replacing carriageway barriers to protect everyone
There'll be full overnight closures and lane closures on the A3290, between Thames Valley Park and Winnersh Triangle, while we replace the central barriers.
From Tuesday 7 to Friday 10 April, both the eastbound (towards Winnersh) and westbound (towards Reading) slip roads on this section will be shut from 9.30pm until 5am each night.
Both closures are for surfacing and installing a temporary vehicle barrier.
From Friday 10 April to Friday 17 July, the outside westbound and eastbound lanes will be closed to keep workers safe while installing new central barriers.
There'll be more overnight closures, most likely Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 July, to remove the temporary barriers. We'll confirm that nearer the time.
