Inspiring the next generation to improve our air
Pupils at Gorse Ride Junior School in Finchampstead recently enjoyed an Abbie Ayre assembly, by Performance in Education, which used interactive storytelling and performance to explain the dangers of air pollution and how to fight it.
This has now been performed to 10 schools across our borough and teachers say it has a big impact, with hundreds of children learning about different types of pollutant, how they're created and the effect they have on people.
As a result, pupils have been writing their own plans for reducing air pollution around their schools - and this, in turn, is a great way to inspire their families and the wider community to want to take action.
Getting arty for this year's Earth Day
To celebrate this year's Earth Day on Wednesday 22 April, we're challenging primary school pupils across the borough to dream up their own futuristic modes of transport. We'll send more details to schools and publish details on our website soon.
We want to make it easier for everyone to get active - so tell us how active you are now, and what stops you from moving more! Your answers will help us come up with ideas to make physical activity more accessible.
Hop along to our Easter cycling extravaganza!
There'll be plenty of family cycling fun when we host our Easter Bike Bonanza on Thursday, 9 April. This takes place from 11am to 2pm on the track behind FBC Centre, off Gorse Ride North in Finchampstead.
Attractions include balance bikes for 2-4 year olds to practice balancing on two wheels, and a bike obstacle course (please bring your own bike and helmet).
You can make a healthy pedal-powered drink on the team's smoothie bike, play their spinning wheel for prizes and get walking and cycling advice. There'll also be free Dr Bike checks, which need to be booked in advance.
You can also meet the team at the community event at Arborfield Green Community Centre between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday, 4 April. Dr Bike will also be there too carrying out free bike checks which need to be booked in advance.
