Road closure set to be lifted ahead of night work
The roundabout upgrade at the junction of Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane is nearly complete.
From tomorrow (Friday 6 March) at 5pm, the current closure on Finchampstead Road to the south of the junction, between Molly Millars Lane and Tangley Drive, will be lifted.
This is a week ahead of schedule and means traffic will be able to move in all directions. Although the roundabout will be open, there will still be some traffic management on the approaches.
Night closures
Between 16 and 28 March, traffic will be able to move in all directions during the day, but we will have some overnight work to carry out, for surfacing and road markings.
This means the whole roundabout will be closed between 8pm and 6am on the affected nights, with a diversion in place.
Resident access will be maintained during these hours by escort. Similarly, we intend to maintain access for pedestrians, but you may need to wait until it is safe to pass through, be escorted by the site team, or use an alternative route.
During these works, traffic management may be needed, with lane restrictions until all of the white lines are in place.
The works will only affect this roundabout. The final touches will be applied to the Tesco roundabout at a later date and we will communicate in advance of those works.
Easthampstead Road will be closed for Openreach works between 13 and 16 March, which has been timed to coincide with the daytime opening of Finchampstead Road.
Once the Openreach works are completed, we will then move into the full closure at the junction of Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road until 10 April.

New crossings in place and under construction
In addition to the improved traffic flow from the roundabout, we've made lots of wider improvements in this area, including new crossings.
There are now two controlled crossings on Finchampstead Road, one either side of the railway bridge. The one closest to Tesco is now fully operational, while the one outside Eden Motors is operating with temporary signals for the time being.
Another crossing is under construction on Finchampstead Road to the south of the roundabout, replacing the old one to move it nearer to the junction with Tangley Drive.
In addition to these, there is a new controlled crossing on Molly Millars Lane, which is also operating on temporary lights currently.
There is an uncontrolled crossing under construction on the traffic island at the junction of Molly Millars Lane and the new roundabout.
Wider improvements for active travel take shape
As well as the new crossings, people have already started to benefit from the new walking and cycling facilities in this area.
Our work at this junction includes making improvements to active travel, with new and wider sections of footway and shared use paths for cyclists. You can see more details on the map below.

A new 3 metre-wide shared footway and cycleway is replacing the old grass verge that previously ran alongside Eden Motors on Molly Millars Lane (pictured above).
There'll be a 3 metre-wide section on the opposite side of the carriageway, but this is a footway only.
Additionally, a 2.5 metre-wide shared foot and cycleway will run between the railway bridge and the southern approach to the junction.
You can click on the diagram above to see the improvements being made.
