What to expect when new link road is completed
As part of the South Wokingham Distributor Road project, the junction of Easthampstead Road with Heathlands Road is being modified from an uncontrolled T-junction to a four-arm signalised junction.
The fourth arm creates a connection to the distributor road via a new link road, which is due to be open in May.
Like the distributor road, it will be 30mph, with shared pedestrian and cycle facilities. These will be the length of the road on one side and more than half of the other side.
The link road is an important element to the changing layout of the road in this area, with part of Easthampstead Road permanently becoming a cul-de-sac.
Through traffic will instead use the link road, which will also provide access to the new housing coming to South Wokingham

Other changes to the road layout in this area
There will be a new three-way signalised junction to provide access to and from the northern part of Easthampstead Road. This change was necessary to allow safe access for the new homes coming to the area.
A four-way junction would not be feasible, as it would need to be significantly larger to operate safely and would then be too close to other junctions in the area. Other changes include:
- Eastbound traffic on the new Central Section won’t be able to turn left onto Easthampstead Road, except for buses
- All westbound traffic on the new Central Section will be able to turn right onto Easthampstead Road
- All southbound traffic on Easthampstead Road will be able to turn either left (eastbound) or right (westbound) onto the new Central Section
Once the new road opens, HGVs heading north along Easthampstead Road will no longer be able to turn left into Heathlands Road, though all other traffic will.
Additionally, by only allowing buses to turn from the Central Section onto Easthampstead Road, other traffic will not be able to use nearby residential streets as a shortcut.
The Star Lane level crossing will remain open after the works are completed, but will be closed while works are taking place.
We have now entered a new phase of our roundabout project at the junction of Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane. The closure point has moved to the south of the junction, between Molly Millars Lane and Tangley Drive and this will be in place until mid-March.
Students get a glimpse of life after school
Our partners at Balfour Beatty helped to organise a mock interview day at The Emmbrook School in Wokingham.
About 250 students in Year 11 had the chance to practice their interview skills and get advice from professionals about preparing for applying for jobs.
They were given four job roles to choose from ahead of the day and were then asked a set of questions about their strengths and what they could bring to the role.
