This is an additional update outside the regular Moving Around the Borough schedule, which is paused over Christmas but will return every Thursday evening from 8 January onwards. We hope you're enjoying the festive season!

Expect some delays as water pipes upgraded
There'll be temporary traffic lights on the A4 Bath Road at Hare Hatch and Knowl Hill for most of next year while Thames Water upgrade the local water supply.
Between Monday 5 January and late September 2026, they'll be working in phases with two-way and multi-way lights between Linden Hill Lane and Canhurst Lane.
There'll also be a temporary 30mph speed limit to keep everyone safe.
The crews will be replacing more than 3km of aging Victorian pipes serving nearby homes, representing an investment of about £1.1 million in this area.
It's part of a drive to improve reliability and reduce leaks across London and the Thames Valley, with more than 546km of pipework being replaced to provide:
-
Stronger, modern plastic pipes – far more durable than old cast iron ones, reducing the risk of bursts
-
A greener, more reliable water supply – fewer leaks, less disruption for customers and less water taken from natural sources
This is Thames Water's biggest ever upgrade with a total investment of more than £20 billion, also including sewage and water treatment improvements.

Working together to keep you moving
We've worked closely with Thames Water to minimise disruption and will continue to do so, although some inconvenience is unavoidable.
The crews will be actively working throughout the whole period and we'll have regular meetings to check progress and look at the ongoing impact.
We can require changes to working patterns or traffic management in principle, but we have to balance this against the pressing need for these works.
The pipes are at the end of their useful life and if they burst, this will cause disruption anyway - as well as leaving properties without water.
Thanks for your patience during these essential upgrades, and watch this newsletter for any updates as they progress.
We always try to co-ordinate works to have as little disruption as possible, but we can't legally refuse permission for works like emergencies or ensuring that residents and businesses have access to essential utilities.
