Learn more about plans for new community
The University of Reading is hosting a consultation event on its proposals for the Loddon Garden Village development.
You'll be able to find out more at Maiden Place Community Centre in Earley from 3pm to 7pm next Thursday (25 September).
Loddon Garden Village would be built at the university's Hall Farm site to the south of the M4, between Shinfield and Arborfield.
The university and its partners, Hatch Farm Land and Gleeson Land, consulted for six weeks in March and received more than 400 written responses.
This will be reflected in a statement of community involvement, which will eventually be submitted as part of an outline planning application for 2,800 homes.
How it fits with our future vision
We've proposed allocating 3,930 new homes at Hall Farm as part of our emerging new Local Plan, a long-term vision for all kinds of development to 2040.
This would be supported by new developer-funded infrastructure including a secondary school, a large country park, a bridge over the M4 and more.
If the university's scheme were approved, the remaining homes would be provided through separate planning applications from Hatch Farm Land and Gleeson Land.
The plan underwent several rounds of consultation and is now awaiting independent examination by a planning inspector before we can adopt it.
We need to allocate housing in line with national planning policies, which are set by the Government, or we could lose our power to reject less suitable proposals.
Arborfield Garrison's military history will be honoured with a parade in Wokingham town centre by the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) on Sunday, 26 October. Find out more about the event, featuring a 40-piece military band, on Wokingham Town Council's Facebook page.
Tell us how you travel and you could win a prize!
If you live in the new homes that are part of the Arborfield Garrison major development, we’d like you to tell us about how you get around.
Do you drive everywhere? Or walk or cycle? Do you catch the bus or train? Or a mixture of everything? However you travel, we want to hear from you.
Your answers will help us understand how we can make travel around your community easier, and will also help us plan major developments better in future.
After taking our survey, you can enter a prize draw to win a £100 Love2shop voucher. The survey’s open until Sunday 28 September. Good luck!
