Next phase of roundabout work has begun
The northern entrance, heading towards Tesco, is now closed and we expect this phase will run until early next year. Diversions are in place, but pedestrian access is being maintained under the railway bridge.
We are using a phased approach to this project to minimise disruption as much as possible.
When the latest phase is completed, the closure will move to the southern approach on Finchampstead Road, with that phase likely to run until late March or early April next year.
 Protecting our waterways together
Across Wokingham Borough, volunteers have been working hard to protect and restore our waterways and green spaces.
At Dinton Pastures Country Park, the Dinton Wednesday Conservation Volunteers, ACT Foundation UK, and our Countryside Services Team have been tackling invasive Himalayan balsam along the Emmbrook and Loddon rivers. Their efforts are helping native plants thrive and keeping our riverbanks resilient.
Meanwhile, in Maiden Erlegh Nature Reserve, the Earley Environmental Group joined forces with Earley Town Council Rangers to clear gullies and improve drainage, vital work that helps prevent erosion and supports biodiversity in the woodland. See their work in action on Facebook.
We’re incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who give their time and energy to care for our local environment. Your work makes a lasting difference.
If you want to get involved, The Big River Watch is coming up later this month. A chance to take a moment in nature, record what you see and support our waterways.
Traders and community spirit at the heart of village
The high street features long-standing family-run shops offering everything from flowers and physiotherapy to Mediterranean cuisine and more.
Many traders have built strong ties with residents over decades, creating a welcoming and personal experience.
Twyford’s compact layout and good transport links make it easy to explore, with refreshed public spaces and active local support helping the village thrive.
We’re showcasing our town centres and businesses thanks to support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Building a borough where everyone belongs
National Inclusion Week takes place from 15 to 21 September and we’re marking it with a webinar hosted by the Wokingham Voice of Inclusion and Equality (VINE).
We've been working with them to create a new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy for the borough. The webinar is a chance to hear more about the policy, what it means for our community, and how it will make a difference.
It’s at 4pm on Monday 15 September. There’ll be a discussion about belonging in Wokingham and a Q&A where you can share your views.
This year’s theme is Now is the Time – so please join us and be part of the conversation.
This is the first in a series of events we’ll be holding over the coming year, each looking at different topics on belonging and inclusion.
