Explore energy tariffs with the Big Community Switch
We’ve teamed up once more with the Big Community Switch to help residents in Wokingham Borough explore exclusive energy tariffs.
The scheme is free to join, simple to use and there’s no obligation to switch.
By registering, you’ll join more than 2,000 residents in the borough who have already unlocked competitive tariffs from trusted suppliers, including options for 100 per cent renewable energy.
Registration is open until Friday 31 October 2025.
Take control of your energy costs and see what you could save as part of a group.
 Protecting our waterways, together
Across Wokingham Borough, volunteers have been working hard to protect and restore our waterways and green spaces.
At Dinton Pastures Country Park, the Dinton Wednesday Conservation Volunteers, ACT Foundation UK, and our Countryside Services Team have been tackling invasive Himalayan Balsam along the Emmbrook and Loddon rivers. Their efforts are helping native plants thrive and keeping our riverbanks resilient.
Meanwhile, in Maiden Erlegh Nature Reserve, the Earley Environmental Group joined forces with Earley Town Council Rangers to clear gullies and improve drainage, vital work that helps prevent erosion and supports biodiversity in the woodland. See their work in action on Facebook.
In the last edition, we shared how our countryside team have been using reedbeds - nature's quietly brilliant filter - as habitats that are great for nature, the borough and the planet. You can watch a video with our very own Simon as he shares how this makes a difference.
We’re incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who give their time and energy to care for our local environment. Your work makes a lasting difference.
Want to get involved? The Big River Watch is coming up later this month. A chance to take a moment in nature, record what you see and support our waterways.

Facing a future without fossil fuel
With the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles set to be phased out, we're doing all we can to help people adopt EVs.
This includes expanding our chargepoint network, with Government funding, and agreeing a long-term strategy for EV charging.
Wokingham Borough Mayor, Cllr. Carol Jewell, accepts a donation for her chosen charity.
Mayor visits repair café to accept charity donation
The visit took place on Sunday 17 August and follows the successful launch of the Eco Skills Learning Centre in June. During the opening event, a raffle was held to raise funds for the Mayor’s charity, which supports children and young people with disabilities, along with their families, across Wokingham Borough.
Thanks to the generosity of attendees the raffle raised £115. The Repair Café kindly matched this amount, bringing the total donation to £230.
Building for the Future is a parent-led charity offering activities, support and therapy for children and young people with disabilities, as well as their families, in Wokingham.
Electric future for buses as operator invests
We've been given a sneak preview of the first ever zero-emission buses that'll be serving Wokingham Borough.
Reading Buses has invested in 24 new state-of-the-art electric vehicles, some of which will serve the claret 21 between Lower Earley and Reading later this year.
The buses are built by Alexander Dennis and will be served by new Zenobe charging infrastructure at the operator's depot.
We're pleased to see a bus operator go electric, in line with our efforts to help car drivers make the switch before new petrol and diesel vehicles are phased out.
Taking the bus has always been better for the environment than driving, and soon those benefits will be even greater.
Routes improving in Wokingham Borough
As part of our Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), an extra late night bus is being introduced on the orange 13 from Reading to Woodley on Fridays and Saturdays.
Buses will run hourly until 1.30am on this service.
Additionally, the purple 17 route from Tilehurst to the outskirts of Earley will be run more frequently at peak periods than last winter.
Both of these changes came into effect last Monday (1 September).
Improvements made through the BSIP are carried out in partnership with local operators and funded by the Department for Transport.
