Helping to fill posts at new supermarket
We’re thrilled to have played a part in launching a new Sainsbury's store at Arborfield Green.
The branch has 75 staff from the local area, including 60 newcomers to the company, 45 of whom joined after attending a recruitment drop-in that we helped to organise. More than 100 people attended the event in early July, which included specialist advice from the Department for Work and Pensions on in-work benefits.
The new store was built by developers under a legal agreement linked to new development at the former Arborfield Garrison.
It has heat recovery systems, rainwater harvesting and rooftop solar panels, in line with our sustainability requirements for new development.
It was opened by Cali, aged 10, a pupil in year 5 at Farley Hill Primary School, who won a competition to design a special shopping bag just for the branch.
It’s part of a wider district centre that’s outlined in our Local Plan, which will create further jobs when it opens, and follows the opening of a new Lidl at Shinfield last year.
 Take another look at volunteering
The need for volunteering in our community remains as strong as ever, and we’re just as keen to talk to businesses about this as we are to our residents.
Your staff could benefit hugely from helping out, so drop into the recruitment fair to meet some of the charities that help local people every day.
Our business community has enormous potential to change lives, and this is a great opportunity to learn more and start those conversations with colleagues. Volunteering can also work around job commitments - a 15 minute befriending phone call could make a difference.
When: Saturday 11 October
Where: Wokingham Town Hall, Market Place, RG40 1AS
Time: 10am to 1pm
The event, co-ordinated by the Wokingham Volunteer Centre, will offer the opportunity to meet several local charities who are responding to the cost-of-living crisis and currently seeking volunteers. Light refreshments will be available.
Global fashion expertise is brought to town
