 Electric vehicles are for EV-eryone!
If you're interested in switching to an electric vehicle, we're organising a free event to help you find out more.
On Saturday 20 September, you can visit Elms Field (RG40 2FJ) in Wokingham to see the latest models and test ride electric bikes.
We'll be demonstrating our e-cargo bikes (pictured above), which are a sustainable alternative to cars or vans for short business journeys.
There's no need to book - just turn up between 10am and 2pm to hear industry experts give advice and explain the latest trends.
Free bicycle checks will also be available, and there'll be a children's activity trail in the playground area on the field.
We're organising the day in partnership with Let's Experience Electric, with support from Wokingham Town Council and Bracknell Forest Council
Youngsters show off skills at Bike Bonanza
We enjoyed a busy Bike Bonanza at Coronation Hall in Woodley on Thursday 21 August, with all our instructors running cycle-themed activities.
Our balance bike track was popular with younger children as was the bike limbo with older children ducking to cycle under the bars.
Dr Bike was also busy offering free bike checks and making minor repairs.
Our My Journey prize wheel worked its magic and numerous fruit smoothies were won and made, to the delight of the children despite the overcast day!
Cllr Rob Comber, the deputy mayor of Wokingham Borough, also tested his skills on our smoothie bike Pedalicious.
Other prizes included My Journey snoods, which were appreciated during the cooler weather, plus hi-vis snapbands and more.
We'll be running some adult cycle training classes for beginners. If you haven't ridden in a while or you've never learned, this class would be suitable for you. The sessions cost £11.00 - please contact us for more information.
Electric scooters still outlawed a decade on
It’s been 10 years since the first electric scooters (e-scooters) were sold in the UK, and it's now believed that more than a million are being used illegally.
It's against the law to ride them on any pavement, road or other public areas, unless you're somewhere that's trialling legal use.
We want people to travel more safely and sustainably, which includes non-motorised push scooters, but e-scooters aren’t allowed in public anywhere in our borough.
Records show at least 1,214 people were injured by e-scooters in the past year, although the true figure could be much higher, while four people were killed.
If you're caught, it will be treated as driving without insurance and you could be fined, get points on your licence or have your scooter permanently seized.
And if you hurt someone, or break any driving laws, you could face the same additional penalties as you would in any other motor vehicle.
Why drive when you can park and ride?
For a limited period you can catch the park and ride bus from Winnersh Triangle, Mereoak and Thames Valley Park for £2.50 return.
For the Winnersh and Mereoak sites, this also includes parking.
This offer is possible thanks to Reading Borough Council using money from the Bus Service Improvement Partnership (BSIP) funding from the Government.
This also funded our recent discounted fares for young people, which were available for five to 18-year-olds on all local journeys throughout August.
You can still take advantage of this summer offer at stops in Wokingham Borough until Sunday (31 August).
