Closure point moving for next phase of project
We are shifting the closure point from the eastern end of Molly Millars Lane to the northern entrance of the roundabout on Finchampstead Road from Monday 8 September.
As you can see from the image above, we have made good progress on the new roundabout, which will significantly improve traffic flows in the area.
When the next phase begins, traffic will still be able to flow between Molly Millars Lane and the southern approach to the roundabout.
There will be diversions, which are explained in more detail below. There will be some disruption for pedestrians, but the footpath under the railway bridge will be maintained.
The upgraded roundabout is part of the South Wokingham Distributor Road project and a wider effort enable future development in the area.
If you know someone who you think would benefit from receiving updates on the project, encourage them to sign up for the newsletter.
We have launched a short survey to better understand your travel habits and there is a chance to win one of three £100 Love2shop vouchers for taking part. To find out more, visit our Engage Wokingham Borough website.

How your journey could be affected
When the next phase of work starts on Monday 8 September, the northern entrance to the roundabout will be closed.
We've used a phased approach to keep other parts of the roundabout open and minimise disruption.
We anticipate that the next phase will run until the beginning of 2026, but we will let you know if that changes.
Until then, traffic will still be able to flow between the southern approach to the roundabout on Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane, as shown in the diagram above.
When Finchampstead Road is closed, all vehicles will be diverted as follows:
-
Northbound - Finchampstead Road (B3016), Nine Mile Ride, Nine Mile Ride Extension, Eversley Road (A327), Langley Common Road (B3349), Barkham Road (B3349), Station Approach, Reading Road (A329), Station Road (A321) and Wellington Road (A321)
-
Southbound - Wellington Road (A321), Station Approach, Reading Road (A329), Station Road (A321), Barkham Road (B3349), Langley Common Road (B3349), Eversley Road (A327), Nine Mile Ride Extension, Nine Mile Ride and Finchampstead Road (B3016)
As ever, we would encourage everyone to follow the official diversion routes and to show consideration to residents and businesses in the area.
From early 2026, the closure point will move to the south of the junction on Finchampstead Road. Traffic will flow between the eastern end of Molly Millars Lane and north of the junction, with final surfacing due to be carried out in March.

Inspiring the next generation
Our partners at Balfour Beatty have been actively engaging with young people to spark their interest in careers in construction and engineering.
They recently gave students a tour of the South Wokingham Distributor Road. It was a rare opportunity to step out of the classroom and into a live construction environment.
At Emmbrook School, Balfour Beatty delivered an assembly to Year 10 students, focusing on interview techniques and career pathways. The session helped build confidence and encouraged students to think about their futures in the industry.
During a visit to Holme Grange School, their sustainability engineering experts led four interactive workshops for Year 9 students. These sessions explored sustainability in construction through student-led activities.
Over the last few months, Balfour Beatty welcomed six work experience students, offering them valuable exposure to the world of construction and infrastructure development.
To round off their efforts, the team attended a jobs fair in Wokingham, connecting with local residents and showcasing the wide range of career opportunities available.
