Have your say on the borough's permit parking for residents
We’re inviting you to have your say on how we manage permit street parking for residents in Wokingham Borough.
A six-week public consultation went live today and closes on Sunday 28 September.
Tell us what you think about our proposals to improve the borough’s current residents’ parking permit scheme, which has been in operation since 2017.
We want a parking permit scheme which works for everyone, so that people can park more easily near to where they live, and that street parking in areas of high demand is better managed.
If you live in either an existing or a proposed new parking permit zone in Wokingham Borough, keep an eye on post through your letterbox over the next few days.
You’ll receive a letter from us telling you about the proposals. It will include a Unique Identification Number you can enter when you have your say in our survey.
The survey is open to all. We encourage everyone who would be impacted by the proposals to take it.
 Town and parish councils review
We’re asking residents to take part in our Community Governance Review [CGR], looking at how towns and parishes in the borough are represented.
A CGR is a legal process completed every 10 to 15 years and makes sure local governance reflects the needs of the communities it represents. This includes reviewing town and parish boundaries, and the number of councillors which are elected in each.
Earlier this year, we encouraged you to have your say. Now, based on what you told us, we’ve drafted recommendations for you to comment on. You have until 13 November 2025 to do so.
We’re particularly keen to hear from you if you’re a resident who will be directly impacted by our recommendations to move some of the town and parish council boundaries.
Charity services funding – what do you think?
We’re planning for the future, from April 2027, when our current contracts with charity and community services in the borough are up for renewal.
There are many of these services supporting people locally. They include befriending services for people who are older and feel isolated; services supporting people who have a learning disability; those supporting families of people with autism; and more.
You might use these services, or you might not know about them but could really use them in future. We’d like to hear from you and your view on what works well and what could be improved.
You have until Friday 29 August to let us know.
You said, we did – making a house a new home
Two properties in Wokingham and Woodley have been transformed in partnership with the people who now call them home.
Our adult social care and housing teams joined forces with Optalis Community Living Services to complete the refurbishments.
The properties’ new tenants are people who draw on care and support. Moving in represents a fresh start for them after previously living in places which had become challenging, like having to navigate stairs, or being isolated living alone.
The developments tie in with our new Council Plan, announced this month, which is founded on four key themes: fair, green, safe and connected. Fair represents residents having equitable access to opportunities, services and support.
