 Listening to community's speeding concerns
We're taking action after lots of residents wrote to us explaining their concerns about speeding on part of Reading Road in Woodley.
We've agreed to repaint the white lines at the junctions with Howth Drive and Wroxham Road and install new warning signs on the approach.
We'll also be painting white road markings that warn people to slow down, and we'll put up equipment to gather up-to-date speed data.
Our most recent data for the area doesn't show any cause for concern, but we're very happy to look into it further and put people's minds at rest.
The works will be carried out later this summer, alongside others that are scheduled to take place in this part of the borough.
If you're worried about long-term safety on a road, you can report it to us - though it may take months to assess as we receive a lot of reports.
If you think a road needs repairing, or some other remedial action is needed, you should report this separately as a maintenance request.
Pledge to make a difference on Clean Air Day
Next Thursday (19 June) is Clean Air Day, which is the UK's largest air pollution campaign and focuses on reducing emissions from transport.
As well as contributing to the climate emergency, harmful air pollutants in vehicle exhausts cause a range of health problems - especially in children.
We know some car journeys are unavoidable, but walking, cycling or taking the train or bus all have numerous benefits where it's realistic to do so.
These options are better for the environment, they're cheaper and they reduce congestion by limiting unnecessary vehicle trips, especially shorter ones.
You can find out more about the alternatives to driving, with timetables, maps and other information, on our My Journey Wokingham team's website.
The My Journey website offers advice on cycling and walking, both including local route maps, bus and train travel including timetables, driving sustainably, park and ride services, electric vehicles and more.
Shaping greener habits from an early age
The My Journey team run all kinds of activities throughout the year to get residents of all ages travelling more actively and sustainably.
That includes courses to help children cycle safely and confidently, from balance bike classes for younger ones to the Bikeability scheme in schools.
There are two Woky Wheels 4 All sessions at Finchampstead next Thursday (19 June) and you can meet the team at next Saturday's (21 June) Winnersh Fete.
They'll also be at the annual Wokingham Bikeathon, which is coming up next Sunday (22 June) and promises a fun day out for all the family.
You can view of list of all events and courses which My Journey Wokingham support, and this is updated regularly.
This week is Cycling UK's Bike Week - why not find out more about swapping some of your car journeys for a short ride, or find out how you could get a discount on comprehensive cycle insurance?
Train usage back on track after covid
Like buses, trains saw a big drop in users during the 2020 pandemic - but also like buses, official figures show our local services are seeing a continued recovery.
In fact, the most recent figures show usage is now above pre-covid levels.
An annual report from the Office of Rail and Road shows a combined total of 6.03 million passenger entries and exits at Wokingham, Twyford, Earley, Winnersh, Winnersh Triangle and Wargrave stations.
This is for 2023/24, the most recent figures available, with 2024/25's figures not due out until November.
The previous years' totals were 3.6 million (2022/23), 2.8 million (2021/22) and 1.03 million (2020/21), while the total before covid in 2019/20 was 5.4 million.

Have your say on our future spending
We want to get you more involved in decisions about services that matter to you, so that your opinions are fully considered when we discuss our next annual budget.
We're asking your views on a wide range of spending priorities, which includes keeping our roads, footpaths and cycle paths in good condition.
Most of our spending goes towards services that we legally have to provide, like supporting vulnerable adults and children.
Your feedback will shape our spending, and possible savings, in other areas where we have a choice - and we're also urging you to support our campaign to change how the Government funds councils like us.
Each year, we get about £30 million less than the average local authority because the current system doesn't properly consider the financial pressures we're under.
You can keep up with the progress of our annual road and footway maintenance programme online, or check our interactive map of the borough for all current and future roadworks and related disruption.
