Job fair sees plenty of activity
Around 300 people attended a jobs fair at the Bradbury Centre in Wokingham on Monday 12 May.
The event was organised by Wokingham Borough Council and the Department for Work and Pensions, giving people the opportunity to speak with employers from a range of different sectors.
Attendees were able to speak to employers from construction, care, hospitality, local government, the film industry and more. They were also be able to access information on training and apprenticeships, as well as help with writing a CV and searching for jobs.
Most of the jobs were with local companies and organisations and did not require extensive travel.
Several employment support organisations were there to provide tailored career advice or referring residents to the best places for job-related information.
We are already working on plans for our next jobs fair. Follow our social media channels for the latest information.
Test and save on electric vehicles for your business
We’re running an electric vehicles event at Winnersh Triangle Business Park to help local firms make the switch.
At the free event on Friday 11 July from 10am to 2pm, you can:
- Test the vehicles
- Learn how to save money
- Get specialist advice
- Learn how to reduce emissions
Guests will have the chance to test drive EVs and hear from experts like the Energy Saving Trust and the University of Reading about the opportunities for grants and tax benefits on EVs.
The event is free but you must register in advance. Spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
Barber shop with style and swagger
A new barbershop has opened in Wokingham town, and its owner David Noakes says it is here to stay. Cuts and Culture began trading in May, offering fresh fades and sharp cuts.
The business operates from the former NatWest Bank, on the corner of Broad Street and Rose Street. Since the closure of the bank, it has been converted into 1, 2, and 3 bedroom luxury flats above, with business outlet space below.
“The building was just a shell when we took it over,” said David. Whilst keen to preserve the original character of the exterior, inside the look is fresh and contemporary – almost electric art deco.
“I worked in my friend’s Reading barbershop for around 10 years.
“But I’ve lived in Wokingham previously and I’ve always loved this town, its markets, the fairs, the community feel it has."
