Bank holiday waste collections start earlier
Remember your waste collections on Monday (26 May) happen as normal despite it being a bank holiday.
But collections do start earlier at 5.30am so get your items out for collection the night before. Check your collection day on our website.
If you’re planning on a clear out or time in the garden, remember you need to book a slot to visit the recycling centre over the weekend.

Find out more about fostering at information events
We’ve got two fostering information events later this week as part of Foster Care Fortnight.
Talk to our teams and local foster carers to find out more how you can make a difference, building relationships with young people and giving them a place to call home.
Foster carer Geri said: “Each day I feel blessed to play such an important role in the lives of the young people I have the privilege of meeting.”
Join our teams to find out more:
- Thursday 22 May, 11.30am to 1.45pm at Wokingham Library, Carnival Hub (RG40 2AF)
- Thursday 22 May, 6pm to 7pm, online (email fostering@wokingham.gov.uk for an invite)

We offer a wide range of support for foster carers, including:
- Council Tax contribution

- An experienced foster carer at level two who cares for two children all year could earn over £25,000 a year

- 24-hour support from our fostering team
Those interested in fostering can also contact the regional hub directly to speak to a member of the recruitment team by emailing contact@lafosteringse.org.uk

A Forest of Imagination has grown at Dinton Pastures
Forest of Imagination Wokingham Borough is coming to Dinton Pastures this weekend.
Following workshops and sessions with hundreds of residents and students in the borough, installations will be finished over the next few days ahead of the showcase weekend (24/25 May).
It’s free and open to all to drop in and visit. Workshops will run throughout both showcase days, as well as selected schools sessions on Thursday and Friday this week.
Some weekend workshops can be booked in advance online, but there will be plenty going on for those who turn up on both days.
See the full events listings on the Forest of Imagination website, as well as a map of site and what art installations you’ll find on the day.
We’re looking for a few extra volunteers to help out this weekend to support the Forest of Imagination event running smoothly. Send us an email with times you’d be able to help on Saturday or Sunday.
More than 2,000 children learn to ride safely
Over the past year, our training provider Avanti Cycling has provided Bikeability Level 1 and 2 training to 1,918 children in Years 5 and 6.
These levels help youngsters to feel more confident and in control before they learn to cycle on quiet roads and identify hazards. Avanti also provided Level 3 training to 237 more children, teaching them to tackle faster roads with more complex junctions.
A further 130 children attended Bikeability Learn to Ride sessions to get started while 182 children, mostly in Year 4, attended Bikeability Level 1 training.
This is funded by the Bikeability Trust and Active Travel England as part of our efforts to get more children cycling safely to secondary schools.
Our My Journey Wokingham team do all kinds of work to make walking, cycling and taking public transport a safe and easy option instead of driving.
Tribute festival with party atmosphere at Dinton
Get ready to sing and dance the night away as the Marvellous Festival returns for the weekend of 19 and 20 July at Dinton Pastures Country Park.
Marvellous is a tribute act festival where music fans and festival-goers are invited to spend the weekend having fun in a safe, outdoor space.
Festival goers can enjoy 14 world-class tribute artists, free activities for the kids, a silent disco marquee, fairground rides and more.
There are day and weekend tickets available to purchase on the Marvellous website. Children under five years old can attend for free but must be booked in advance.
In Friday’s Residents’ Round-up we said Marvellous takes place in June, not July. This is incorrect and we apologise for any confusion caused.
