Update on sports pavilion and tennis courts
Last year, we approved proposals for new sports and community facilities off both sides of Princess Marina Drive in Arborfield Green.
This included the refurbishment of four tennis courts and a new pavilion to replace the existing one.
The tennis courts are due to be completed by August and the old pavilion is being demolished this month. Construction on the upgraded pavilion is due to start in September.
The pavilion will meet Sport England's standards, will be wheelchair accessible and have changing rooms for players and umpires.
It will have a club room with kitchen and serving facilities, which will allow it to be hired out for events - in turn raising money towards its upkeep.
There'll also be two car parks, which offer enough space even when the pitches are at maximum capacity.

The offer is open to girls aged nine to 15 and includes:
- Unlimited gym use during junior gym hours
- Unlimited swimming
- Friendly on-site team to support you through your activity
- Free access to Places Leisure app and virtual studio, which includes a Big Sister channel
To sign up, visit your nearest leisure centre, where a member of the team can help get you started. Alternatively, you can submit your details via the online form.

New Sainsbury’s supermarket is taking shape
Construction of the new Sainsbury’s store is moving forward at pace with part of the steel frame and roof already built.
The store is being built on a plot near Bohunt School and Arborfield Green Leisure Centre. It is anticipated that it will be open by the end of the year.
Sainsbury’s will run the store as a neighbourhood hub, offering an additional click-and-collect service, allowing it to offer a wider range of products.
The sale to the District Centre developer is close to being completed. The enabling works for the District Centre are on track, with earthworks complete, all the drainage installed and the final phase of services are being installed. We expect construction of the new homes and shops to begin this summer.
 Improvements coming to bus service
The number 3 bus between Wokingham town and Barkham, Finchampstead and Arborfield will be more frequent from Monday 19 May.
Reading Buses will run the service up to every 30 minutes on this section between 6.30am and 7pm, and on Saturdays between 8am and 6pm. The Sunday timetable will include direct hourly buses to Wokingham between 8.30am and 8pm.
Reading Buses is already running an hourly service on the 3 on a commercial basis, including more frequent journeys between Arborfield and Reading.
These changes are funded by developer contributions and the Government, the latter through our Bus Service Improvement Plan in partnership with Reading Buses.
