Improve your skills and confidence on the water
Look out for all the paddlesport activities taking place at Wokingham Waterside Centre this summer season.
Weekly afterschool sessions give an opportunity for children and young people age eight and above to develop skills and confidence on the water.
No experience is needed for those participating in starter sessions and for those looking to improve their skills the Discoverer sessions are perfect.
Holiday activities are a favourite choice for ages eight to 17 and Family Activity Days are another great way to get the whole family moving and enjoying the outdoors together.
Pay and play options are also available for those who wish to hire equipment and craft to get on the water. Bookings are available in one-hour slots and craft hire can include sit-on-top kayaks, paddleboards or katakanus.
Children's author coming to Woodley Library
Join us at Woodley Library on Wednesday 28 May as we welcome author Lui Sit.
She writes children's books, adult short fiction and non-fiction. Her debut middle grade contemporary adventure book Land of the Last Wildcat was published by Macmillan Children’s Books on 1 May.
Lui also has a crime mystery book The Lucky House Detective Agency being released in June under the pen name Scarlett Li.
Born in Hong Kong, Lui grew up in Australia and now lives in London with her family and moody cat. She is happiest in the sea, a forest or any library.
We are delighted to welcome her for this free event, which runs from 11am to 12 noon. Booking is required and signed copies of her books will be available to purchase.
Raising the profile of carers and inequalities they face
The Wokingham Carers Partnership is organising a series of free events to celebrate Carers Week 2025 (9 to 13 June).
Carers Week is organised every year by Carers UK and Carers Trust, with a different theme each year drawing attention to issues facing unpaid carers across the UK.
The theme for this year’s national campaign is about ‘caring about equality’ and aims to highlight the inequalities faced by unpaid carers.
The following events are being held locally:
- Carers Walk – California Country Park, Finchampstead, Monday 9 June, 1pm to 3pm
- Cream Tea on the Thames – Caversham Pier, Richfield Avenue, Reading, Tuesday 10 June. Enjoy a cruise on the Caversham Princess and a cream tea while you take in the view. Arrive for 10.30am for an 11am departure, arriving back in Caversham at 1pm. A non-refundable deposit of £10 will need to be paid and spaces are limited. This trip is being subsidised by Wokingham Borough Council
- Information Day – Loddon Hall, Twyford, Wednesday 11 June, 3.30pm to 7pm. There will be stands offering information and support from a range of local organisations. Children can also look forward to activities, including face painting, a meet and greet with birds of prey and a visit from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service
- Carers Walk – Dinton Pastures Country Park, Hurst, Thursday 12 June, 10.30am to 12.30pm
- Games Evening – Radstock Community Centre, Earley, Friday 13 June, 6pm to 8pm
