Wokingham Borough Connect
Carers can now be more active for less
You told us in our carer’s workshops last year how important it is to be able to have time away from your caring responsibilities, to look after your own health and wellbeing.
Places Leisure is offering unpaid carers discounted pay as you go sessions and memberships. This offer is valid at the following locations:
- Arborfield Green Leisure Centre
- Ryeish Green Leisure Centre
- Bulmershe Leisure Centre
- Loddden Valley Leisure Centre
- Wokingham Leisure Centre
The monthly membership options offer unlimited gym, swim and classes from £40 per month. Pay as you go prices for unpaid carers range from £3.90 for a swim to £5.45 for classes and £6.75 for fitness.
To claim these discounted rates, you need a Carer's Card, available by emailing the Carer's Partnership at .
You can find out more by speaking to one of the team in the centres or visiting the Places Leisure website.
Our Big Gathering is coming back again
We are still interested in hearing your ideas for what you would like to see included at our third Big Gathering this autumn.
In the past we have:
- Shared information about Social Care Future
- Invited people to contribute to a local Social Care Future Charter
- Run information sessions on topics you told us you wanted to know more about, such as housing and staying safe online
- Offered fun activities, including drumming and drama
- Helped people to make new connections
Please take five minutes to fill in our simple survey to tell us what you would like to see at our event this year. The survey will end on Friday 9 May.
 Autism partnership logo design winners
Wokingham's Autism Partnership is made up of organisations, groups and people in our borough. They work together to develop plans and drive progress, led by local autistic people of all ages and their families.
They asked people who live, go to school or work in Wokingham Borough to get creative and design a logo for Wokingham's Autism Partnership.
All your ideas were displayed at the Autism Celebration Event at the Oakwood Centre earlier this month, so people at the event could vote for their favourite.
The winner, Beth, drew this beautiful rainbow heart. She will receive an Amazon voucher as a prize, as will Hannah and Presley who were our runners up.
Get to know the recovery college
Are you, or someone you know, considering registering with Wokingham Recovery College? Perhaps you were interested by the interview with Nikita about the college in last newsletter. Would you like the chance to meet the team first?
This session provides an opportunity to meet staff, get support to complete registration forms and ask any questions about the free workshops available.
If you’re already a student, but have not attended a session, this is also the perfect chance to meet them and see one of their venues.
Venue: Wokingham Carnival Hub, Library meeting room, Wellington Road, Wokingham, RG40 2AF
Date: Wednesday 14 May
Time: 2.30pm to 3.30pm
This month the recovery college launched their new prospectus for May to August, with lots of interesting sessions available, like Art for Wellbeing, Drawing the Small Stuff and Managing Low Mood.
