 Quartet of running events around country park
The first event in this year's Dinton Summer Series is taking place on Thursday 15 May.
This is a friendly series of four running events in four months, with the option to run either 5km or 10km at Dinton Pastures Country Park in Hurst. There is also a 2km option for children.
Future events will be held on 19 June, 17 July and 14 August. For the May event, the adult runs start at 7.30pm, with the children's event starting at 7pm.
All runs are timed and you will get a medal for finishing each event. There will also be trophies for the fastest runners in different categories.
 Free entertainment at annual children's fun day
Wokingham Town Council's annual children's fun day is returning to Langborough Recreation Ground.
Join in the fun from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 24 May, with all activities provided free of charge.
There will be fairground rides, farms animals, face painting, go kart rides, arts and crafts, ferret racing and much more.
The 1st Winnersh Scouts will be running a barbecue and you are welcome to bring your own picnic for the day.

 Book for May half-term or summer holidays
Now the Easter holidays are finished, you might want to get planning for May half-term or the school summer holidays.
Dinton Activity Centre is ready to take bookings for:
- May half-term (27 to 30 May)
- Summer school holidays (28 July to 29 August)
A half-day session is £34, suitable for children aged eight to 13. Morning sessions run 9.30am to 12.30pm, afternoon session run 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
Each activity is thoughtfully crafted to ensure safety, excitement and skill-building, making it the perfect place for kids to learn, grow and make lasting memories. The activities include:
- Tuesday, 9.30am to 12.30pm - Archery and team challenges
- Tuesday, 1.30pm to 4.30pm - Kayaking and leap of faith
- Wednesday, 9.30am to 12.30pm - Shelter building and outdoor climbing
- Wednesday, 1.30pm to 4.30pm - Fencing and rafted canoes
- Thursday, 9.30am to 12.30pm - Crate stack and orienteering
- Thursday, 1.30pm to 4.30pm - Archery and SUP
- Friday, 9.30am to 12.30pm - Kayaking and indoor climbing
- Friday, 1.30pm to 4.30pm - Fire lighting and Jacob's ladder

 Spring concert celebrating Ukrainian community
Wokingham Baptist Church is hosting a concert to celebrate Ukraine.
The spring concert will be held on Sunday 11 May and is a fundraiser for Dnipro Hope Mission and for the local Ukrainian music community.
Starting at 6.30pm, there will be dancing, singing and poetry, with Ukrainian food and drink available to purchase during the interval.
Tickets are £5 for adults and free for children, with donations also accepted on the night.
 Experience the timeless wonder of dawn chorus
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds will be leading their annual Dawn Chorus Walk at Dinton Pastures Country Park in Hurst on Saturday 4 May.
The Wokingham & Bracknell group will help you to identify the birds that are singing.
Meet in the main car park at 5am and enjoy a walk around the lakes and experience the wonder of the dawn chorus.
No booking is needed and there is a suggested donation of £3 per person.
 Reminder: VE Day events happening in your area
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, a celebration of 80 years of peace since the end of Word War Two in Europe.
Here are some ways you can get involved locally...
Thursday 8 May:

9am to 5pm, Market Place, Wokingham: Wreath laying by Town Mayor at 11am), visit the war memorial from 10.30am to 2pm and there will also be military vehicles

8.30pm to 10pm, School Green, Shinfield: Meet at the war memorial for a wreath laying and short service of thanksgiving, followed by a procession to the beacon, which will be lit at 9.30pm

6.30pm to 10pm, Hurst (various locations): The bells of St Nicholas Church will be rung at 6.30pm. Hurst Morris People and Aldbrickham Clog and Step dancers will be performing at The Castle Inn from 7.45pm. From 9.10pm Reverend Hugh Thomas will lead a thanksgiving in the community orchard near St Nicholas, where there will also be a beacon lighting

6pm to 7pm, St Mary's Church, Wargrave: Join in the special service of remembrance, which is being held in partnership with the Royal British Legion

9pm to 10pm, Woodford Park, Woodley: Gather at the war memorial for 9pm and the Town Mayor will lay a wreath, followed by the lighting of the beacon at 9.30pm
Saturday 10 May:

12 noon to 6pm, Risley Recreation Ground: Enjoy a range of activities to celebrate VE Day. Entry is free and you can bring your own picnic. There will be face painting, a cake competition, craft stalls, live music, tug of war, a barbecue and tombola
