 Buses set for £1.9m investment
We’re set to invest £1.9million into the borough’s bus services. Most of the money will be spent on making services run more often and for longer, with the rest spent on measures like improving bus stops.
It will also support for the return of free bus travel on Saturdays in the run up to Christmas for a third year, as well as a new scheme to provide cheaper bus travel to young people during the 2025 summer school holidays.
There’s a host of measures being supported over the next few years, including extending funding support for Winnersh Triangle Park and Ride, as well as services for Woodley, Earley and Lower Earley.
These projects are being supported following feedback from hundreds of residents through Social Care Futures, talking with young people and the council’s Local Transport Plan consultations.
Funding is through Government grants and developer contributions. Councillors will finalise the proposals at a meeting later this week.
Sign up or renew garden waste collections
Sign up or renew your garden waste collection service to reduce waste and benefit the environment.
This optional, subscription-based service is convenient if you have a garden, as your garden clippings, grass cuttings, leaves and weeds are collected fortnightly from the kerbside.
Your garden waste is sent to a composting facility where it's turned into high quality, peat-free compost for growing other plants.
The price for a 12-month service (1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026) is £90. It costs the same no matter which month you join, so join now to maximise the benefit.
For those signing up for the first time, the price includes a 240-litre brown wheeled bin for storing garden waste. Select the button below to find out more or sign up.

Turn the little moments with a child into a big deal
Ninety per cent of a child's brain growth happens before the age of five. Right from the start, all those little moments you spend together with a child is building their brain.
The Department for Education, in partnership with the Department for Health and Social Care, has launched its Start for Life 'Little Moments Together’ campaign.
The campaign aims to educate parents about the importance of brain development in the first five years of a child’s life.
It also aims to reduce the gap for disadvantaged groups, who may have children with poor vocabulary skills, with too many starting school months behind their peers in speech and language.
The Start for Life website has lots of simple ideas for how to build these little moments into each day. This includes examples of advice and activities for parents to do with children at different ages. It also signposts parents to relevant in-person support available locally.
