A detailed look at plans for new road
With the initial enabling works on the South Wokingham Distributor Road now under way, we've published diagrams showing what it'll look like when it's finished.
You can check them out now on Facebook - and sign up for our South Wokingham newsletter for an even closer look, which will be published next week.
Main construction works will be starting in the spring, but we're not expecting any significant disruption on the roads until mid-summer.
We're finalising the works programme with our partners at Balfour Beatty now, and as soon as that's confirmed we'll publish more detailed timescales.
What's coming up - more details to follow
Throughout the second half of 2025, there'll be closures and diversions at the junction of Molly Millars Lane and Finchampstead Road.
A section of Easthampstead Road, between the Waterloo Road and Heathlands Road junctions including the level crossing, will also close for a time from the winter.
We're also proposing to improve the junction of Peacock Lane and Waterloo Road, subject to planning permission, and this could cause disruption.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, and will be working with residents and businesses to keep this to a minimum.
Don't forget that you can keep track of all current and upcoming disruption across the borough using our live roadworks map.
Town centre paving slabs will be restored
You may notice three areas of temporary paving at Market Place, in Wokingham town centre, but these will be returned to their original condition.
These spots were recently excavated by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) to repair a series of cable faults which were causing unexpected power cuts for nearby businesses.
To keep everyone safe and supplied with power, SSEN has the legal right to undertake these works urgently, without forward planning.
The paving slabs in Market Place are bespoke, so SSEN have to order three different types from overseas to match the existing surface. These are in high demand so they won't be available until much later in the year.
SSEN will replace them as soon as possible but until then, we've agreed the use of ordinary slabs as a temporary measure. There's tarmac at one location, outside the Co-operative Food store, as this area gets more footfall.

Plan your trip around motorway junction closure
There'll be a full closure on the east side of the M4's junction 12, including the eastbound on-slip road, next weekend.
This will run from 9pm on Friday, 28 February to 6am on Monday, 3 March, and is part of the ongoing repair work to the bridge at the Theale interchange.
Traffic will be diverted via A4155 Bath Road, A4155 Castle Hill, A33, A339 Ringway North, A340 Aldermaston Road, Main Road, Tadley Hill, A340 Aldermaston Road, A340 Paices Hill, A340 Basingstoke Road and A4 Bath Road to junction 12 of the M4.
Traffic wishing to the join the M4 when the on-slips are closed will follow the diversion until it reaches junction 11 of the M4.
Work is being done by National Highways, who are responsible for motorways.
Some roads in and around Wokingham town centre will be closed on Sunday morning for Wokingham Half Marathon. A list of closures and timings can be found on the event’s website.
Reporting highways issues? It's not always us!
Although we’re your local highways authority, we’re not always responsible for maintaining a road or street. Some highways, like those serving new housing, may actually be the developer’s responsibility.
We have some control over highways development through the planning process, but it’s up to developers to offer streets for adoption. Until then, they have to maintain them at their expense.
Before we consider adopting anything as a public highway, we have to be happy that it’s in good condition and built to our standards. This ensures taxpayers don’t pay for work that should already have been rectified.
In some cases, areas may remain unadopted and managed privately by a developer or through a management company, rather than us.
You can find out whether a road or street is adopted or not using our interactive map.
Is it ours? How to get in touch
If there's a fault with an adopted highway or something related like lighting, or there's a blockage of some kind, you can report it online.
You can also use this link for faults with other things we look after, like public pavements and footpaths, drainage, overgrown trees and more.
If you've already reported a fault, you can check in with us on how it's going.
If you're concerned about general safety on a road, or want something like a dropped kerb, you can contact our traffic management team.
