Don't miss out on half term holiday club
There are still places available in our Wild Days holiday club for the February half-term.
From 17 to 21 February (Monday to Friday), our Dinton Activity Centre team will be running a variety of activities, including archery, indoor climbing, fencing, shelter building, orienteering and more for children aged eight to 13.
You can sign up your child to either a morning or afternoon session, each offering two adventurous activities led by our experienced instructors.
Each half-day session costs £32 per person. You can also order a lunchbox for your child, which includes sandwiches, a variety of snacks and a drink. Booking is available online.
Remember to bring your children aged two to five along to our next Storytime session at Dinton Activity Centre on Tuesday 25 February at 11am. It's free and no booking is needed.
Led by our libraries team, the session offers a wonderful opportunity for children to engage in interactive storytelling and participate in fun activities with their parents.
New zip wire installed at Dinton Pastures
A brand new zip wire has been installed at Dinton Pastures play area, and it's now open for the public to enjoy! With two seats, you can have twice the fun with your friends and family.
This new addition replaces the old zip wire. We appreciate your patience and understanding during the replacement work.
 Popular birdwatching course returns
The Wokingham and Bracknell Local Group of The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is bringing back their popular introductory birdwatching course next month.
The course is perfect for beginners, who are new to birdwatching and want to get started, as well as those who have recently taken up the hobby and wish to enhance their skills.
There are a total of four sessions in this course:
- Tuesday 18 and 25 March, from 7pm to 9pm at St. Paul’s Church Parish Rooms in Wokingham
- Saturday 22 and 29 March, from 9am to 12pm at Dinton Pastures Country Park
Participants will learn about bird identification, birdsong and calls, migration patterns, and what to look for throughout the year. The course will also cover the use of optics, recommended field guides and apps, and general birdwatching tips, including the best spots to observe birds in Berkshire.
The cost is £24 for all four sessions, or £7 per session if you can't make all of them.
Email the Local Group to register or for any queries.
Temporary footpath closures near Wokingham town
With tree clearance works taking place to the east of Finchampstead Road from this week, footpaths in and around the area will be closed and diverted.
However, this work, which supports the construction of the South Wokingham Distributor Road, will happen in stages to ensure there is good access throughout.
Footpath 10 (the route in orange on the map above), which runs from Gipsy Lane to the track near Ludgrove School, closed yesterday (Monday 10 February), with the alternative route from Gipsy Lane to Luckley Road via footpaths 9, 24 and 25 (the route in purple on the map above) remaining open.
For two weeks after that, starting next Monday (17 February), footpath 10 will be open while footpaths 9, 24 and 25 will close, including the section of footpath 25 that starts off Finchampstead Road near Tesco.
You can see all the borough's public rights of way on our interactive map, produced in partnership with Loddon Valley Ramblers.
In the long term, we’ll be planting lots of new trees and hedges to meet our obligation to create more wildlife habitats in the area than before the road was built.
