Wokingham Borough Connect
Roadmap to success for borough's town centres
We are pleased to share that the new Town Centre Strategic Framework, along with specific development strategies for Wokingham and Woodley town centres, and Twyford village centre, have been approved by our decision making Executive.
We’d like to thank you for your valuable contributions in shaping the framework and strategies.
About the framework and strategies
The Town Centre Strategic Framework is built around four key principles to guide the support and development of all town and district centres in the borough:
- Healthy, thriving towns where everyone feels they belong
- Support businesses and create ecosystems for sustainable growth
- Work towards carbon neutral town centres
- Work in partnership to celebrate the individuality of our town centres
Tailored strategies for Wokingham and Woodley town centres, and Twyford village centre, have been developed to align with these principles while addressing the distinct strengths and challenges of each area.
In addition, we plan to look at other district and town centres to identify their needs and opportunities.
The Town Centre Strategic Framework and the strategies for three town and village centres will launch later this month, with the full version of the documents available and accessible to the public.
 Economic Development Strategy also approved
Our Executive has also approved a new Economic Development Strategy aimed at ensuring the continued economic success of the borough.
The strategy outlines an economic vision for 2035, with Wokingham Borough becoming a ‘growing and greener economy for everyone’. It also establishes a number of strategic objectives to guide how we achieve this vision.
We will share further information on the Economic Development Strategy in our March issue. Stay tuned!
Business expands with move to town centre
This months spotlight shines on Melanie Curtis Accountants, which has made an exciting move to Wokingham town, marking a new chapter of growth for the business.
Mel Curtis, who has deep roots in Wokingham, grew up in the area and attended The Holt School. With over 25 years of experience in accountancy, Mel’s journey began after an early role in retail banking in Reading town centre, which inspired her to pursue a career in the field. As a local employer, she is passionate about helping local businesses grow and thrive — a value that has been at the core of her Berkshire-based practice’s growth.
The business started from Mel’s home in Burghfield, and over the last 20 years, the journey has led her and her team closer to her Wokingham roots. Last year, after noticing a vacant property, Mel saw it as a perfect opportunity to bring a fresh, modern look to the practice and contribute to breathing new life into a part of Wokingham town. The move to Peach Street not only brings the business closer to its community, but also enables it to better serve local businesses with an updated, vibrant space.
Mel proudly shares, “We pride ourselves on being proactive accountants in Berkshire, helping businesses look ahead and reach for the stars. We provide real-time information, planning and accountability to ensure growth.
"We can manage every aspect of your accounting and tax needs - from bookkeeping, payroll and accounts to personal tax returns and more. Additionally, we offer business development and growth services to help local businesses in the Berkshire area turn their dreams into reality.”
