Wokingham Borough Connect
Helping you get to Lunar New Year celebrations
We're offering free parking to help you join the Lunar New Year event which takes place at Wokingham Market Place on Sunday 9 February.
This free celebration, organised by Wokingham Town Council, runs from 11am to 3pm and marks the start of a new year in Chinese and many other Asian cultures.
It includes the Pak-Mei UK Lion Dance Troupe performing a spectacular lion dance, music, dancing, street food and much more.
More about our offer
If you're driving into town for the event, you can park for free at any of our car parks.
Funding for this one-off offer was going to support last year's Wokingham Winter Carnival. As this was cancelled due to inclement weather, we've decided to extend the offer to another upcoming celebration.
However, we'd encourage you to walk, cycle or get the bus or train if you can.
Please note that Denmark Street will be closed all day to allow for the celebrations, so Denmark Street car park will only be accessible from the old library side that day.
Don't forget that Easthampstead Road in Wokingham will be closed between Waterloo Road and Heathlands Road from 20 January to 1 February. This is so construction of the South Wokingham Distributor Road can start. Access will be maintained where possible, with a diversion in place.
New airport coach service all set for take-off
You can now travel to and from Heathrow Airport by catching the RailAir coach at Winnersh Triangle.
From this Sunday (19 January), the RA1 service from Reading will serve a new stop at Winnersh Triangle park and ride, next to the railway station.
It's been added to meet growing demand for a direct link to the airport for everyone who lives or works in the borough.
The journey, which you can book online, lasts under an hour and arrives and departs from straight outside the terminal door.
It runs up to every 20 minutes, including early mornings and late nights, and coaches have air conditioning, wi-fi and USB charging.
Buses replace trains for weekend maintenance
There'll be rail replacement buses on the line between Reading and Bracknell next Saturday and Sunday (25 and 26 January) due to planned maintenance work.
This affects South Western Railway services from Reading to London Waterloo, with the rail replacement bus calling at Earley, Winnersh Triangle and Winnersh. Trains run as usual between Bracknell and London Waterloo.
It also affects Great Western Railway services between Reading and Redhill and Gatwick Airport, with a rail replacement bus covering stops between Reading and Guildford including Wokingham.
You've still got a couple of weeks to saddle up and get those miles under your belt for the chance to win prizes! Love to Ride's Winter Wheelers game, which our My Journey Wokingham team support, runs until Friday 31 January.
 Gas upgrade brings temporary disruption
There'll soon be temporary traffic lights and closures on Church Road in Earley while SGN replace old metal gas pipes with safer, more reliable plastic ones.
For about four weeks from next Monday (20 January), there'll be temporary three-way traffic lights at the junction of Eastcourt Avenue and later at Palmerstone Road.
From Monday 17 February, Church Road will be closed between its junctions with Woodlands Avenue and Culver Lane for about six weeks.
During the first week of the closure, which is scheduled to minimise disruption as it falls in the half-term holiday, there'll be temporary two-way traffic lights at the junction with Woodlands Avenue.
The signed diversion is via B3350 Pitts Lane, A4 London Road, Reading Road, Headley Road, Loddon Bridge Road, Crockhamwell Road, and Woodlands Avenue.
The bus stop on Culver Lane will be suspended, so please check for service updates from Reading Buses. SGN will also be posting updates.
Bridge repairs are being carried out at the M4 junction 12 interchange near Theale and Reading, with overnight and full closures planned between now and early March. Diversions will be in place at times.
