 Help for January and beyond
The festive period is often the most expensive time of the year and January can be the month where you struggle with the fallout.
There are also recent freezing temperatures meaning using more money to pay for energy bills, which is impacting everyone.
Here are some of our most used webpages with tips and advice, if you’re struggling this month. We have guides for your situation to take you through help options step by step:
And here are some of the most useful options, based on advice and services other residents have used in recent months:
Wokingham Library trials longer opening hours
We are pleased to announce we will be trialling longer opening hours at Wokingham Library at Carnival Hub for the next couple of months.
The new opening times are:
- Monday to Friday - 8am to 7pm
- Saturday - 9.30am to 5pm
- Sunday - 10am to 2pm
During the extended hours, the Places Leisure team will be supervising the library.

Volunteer and make a difference to our borough
Is your New Year's resolution to volunteer for your local community?
Pop along to the Volunteer Recruitment Fair at Wokingham Town Hall on Saturday 1 February, 10am to 1pm, to learn more from our wonderful local charities.
Volunteer roles can fit around work, family and other commitments. There is a role for everyone, from gardening to driving, administration to giving advice, sorting donations to helping at events, or spending time chatting to people in need of friendship.
There are many benefits to volunteering including gaining new skills, getting fresh air and exercise, building your confidence, meeting new people, adding to your CV - all whilst giving something back to your community.
To see the full list of organisations attending, visit the Wokingham Volunteer Centre website.
If you're unable to attend and would like more information on volunteering opportunities across the borough, you can send an email to the Wokingham Volunteer Centre team.
Work resumes on road to serve planned housing
We're starting work on the final stages of the South Wokingham Distributor Road after securing the necessary funding from Homes England.
This new road will offer access to new homes and amenities that are coming to the south of the railway line, in line with our long-term plan to meet the borough’s future needs, and will include walking and cycling provision as well as bus stops.
It will run from the roundabout between the two railway bridges on Finchampstead Road to the new roundabout on Waterloo Road, with improvements at the junctions of Molly Millars Lane and Finchampstead Road.
Preliminary works will start next Monday (20 January), with main works starting in early spring.
This will involve some road closures including a full closure on Easthampstead Road, near the level crossing, for two weeks from next Monday. Pedestrian access will stay open at all times, with a signed diversion route for vehicles.
Our partners at Balfour Beatty will also be clearing tree and hedges, but eventually there’ll be much more new planting than before – including new nature parks funded by developers.

We’ll keep including major updates on this project in Residents’ Round-up. However, for the latest details you can sign up for our South Wokingham community newsletter.
We’ll soon be publishing a long-term overview of the entire construction project and the expected timescales for every stage, including any likely disruption.
