Our team are responsible for all highway assets across the borough including:

Thanks to the dedication of our teams, we’ve made significant improvements across Wokingham Borough, ensuring safer journeys for residents and visitors.
Our roads and footways are inspected at regular intervals throughout the year. Our inspectors walk and drive a total of 353 inspection routes annually.
2024 highlights
Annual road maintenance programme
As part of our annual road maintenance programme, we resurfaced 6,426 metres of road in 2024.
Preservation works were also carried out along 37,399 metres of road across the borough to prolong the life of 88 roads – this included 28,754 metres of surface dressing works and 8,645 metres of asphalt preservation works.
These upgrades not only enhance driving conditions but also extend the lifespan of our roads.
Footway upgrades
We completed 30 footway schemes this year as part of our footway improvement programme which will continue this February, helping keep the borough safe and accessible for pedestrians.
Tackling defects
We attended 1,207 emergencies, and attended or triaged 14,805 customer enquiries. This included inspecting 2,386 potholes and checking 1,017 streetlighting faults.
Supporting public transport
Government statistics published in March 2024 show public transport continues to thrive in the borough, with over 2.4 million bus journeys recorded between April 2023 and March 2024, a ten per cent increase on the year before.

If you spot an issue, please report it online via our website. Your reports help us respond quickly and keep the borough moving.
Keeping you safe this winter
Our gritting team has been working tirelessly around the clock to ensure our roads remain safe during challenging weather conditions, on-call 24/7 even during adverse weather warnings.
They've covered thousands of miles and spread hundreds of tonnes of grit across the borough's roads since November, including seven gritting runs covering almost 1,000 miles in the last few days with the recent cold spell.
Through our winter maintenance efforts and strategic deployment of our vehicles, we've been able to protect thousands of people travelling on our network daily. From ensuring school runs go smoothly to making sure emergency services can reach those in need, the impact of our work is felt borough-wide.
During recent 'yellow' and 'amber' weather warnings we increased out-of-hours operations to address icy and hazardous conditions, sometimes resulting in multiple runs a day. This proactive approach highlights our commitment to keeping the borough moving safely.
The safety of our community is at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s gritting key routes, responding to snow, or monitoring changing weather conditions, our operatives have been unwavering in their dedication to serving the borough.
We are incredibly proud of our gritting team and out-of-hour operatives and their dedication during this winter season. Their work, often unseen, ensures the borough continues to function smoothly despite the challenges posed by severe weather.
Work resumes on road to serve planned housing
It will run from the roundabout between the two railway bridges on Finchampstead Road to the new roundabout on Waterloo Road, with improvements at the junctions of Molly Millars Lane and Finchampstead Road.
Preliminary works will start next Monday, 20 January, with main works starting in early spring.
This will involve some road closures including a full closure on Easthampstead Road, near the level crossing, for two weeks from next Monday (20 January). Pedestrian access will stay open at all times, with a signed diversion route for vehicles.
Our partners at Balfour Beatty will also be clearing tree and hedges, but eventually there’ll be much more new planting than before – including new nature parks funded by developers.
Keep up to date with the latest news
We’ll soon be publishing a long-term overview of the entire construction project and the expected timescales for every stage, including any likely disruption.
