Pay respect to fallen heroes at Remembrance events
Wokingham
This year's Remembrance church service will be at All Saints Church in Wokingham on Sunday 10 November at 3pm. This is a public service and all residents are welcome, but spaces are limited.
A parade to the church will leave Market Place in the town centre at 2.35pm, led by St Sebastian's Wokingham Band.
Woodley
A gathering of Remembrance for Armistice Day will take place at the War Memorial in Woodford Park at 11am on Monday 11 November.
The gathering is open to all and the town council, local schools, community groups and other organisations lay wreaths and observe a two-minute silence.
Finchampstead
On Sunday 10 November at 3pm, there will be the annual Remembrance Day parade at Finchampstead Memorial Park. The Scouts and Brownies will be on parade and the service will be led by Reverend Julian McAllen of St James Church.
Refreshments will be provided afterwards in the Memorial Hall by church members.
Arborfield
There will be a Remembrance Sunday parade in Arborfield from 10am to 12 noon on Sunday 10 November. The parade will start at the Royal British Legion on Eversley Road and head to the war memorial, where a service will take place. The procession will then return to the starting point.
Wargrave
The Remembrance service will take place at St Mary's Church at 10am on Sunday 10 November. The congregation will then be invited to assemble at the memorial on Mill Green at 10.45am to place wreaths and plant poppy crosses in memory of all of those who gave their lives.
Wokingham Borough's first Climate Action Week
We are delighted to be working in partnership with Woodley Town Council to organise a series of free events as part of the borough's first Climate Action Week (18 to 23 November).
The week will see a variety of events taking place online and in person to raise awareness of what we can all do to contribute positively to tackle the climate emergency.
Both councils declared climate emergencies in 2019 and our latest Climate Emergency Action Plan sets out goals and the current progress for each action.
Climate Action Week will have added significance, as the week coincides with the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29), which runs from 11 to 22 November in Azerbaijan.
There will be something for people of all ages to enjoy, including a charity shop fashion show, community litter pick and recycled art workshop.
Something sporty for all at Festival of Inclusivity
The next Sport Together Berkshire Festival of Inclusivity will be held at Arborfield Green Leisure Centre on Friday 1 November.
Join us for an exciting morning, whether you are a seasoned athlete or just looking to have some fun, with a wide range of sports and games to try.
The day runs from 9.30am to 1pm, with bookable sessions available in 40-minute blocks from 10am to 12.10pm.
There will then be a one-mile challenge event and presentations to finish. Tickets are £10 per person and there is a free soft play area for younger children, provided by Places Leisure.
For more information and to book, visit the Eventbrite page.
Go on an adventure with new friends at gaming day
The Tabletop Takeover is returning to Wokingham Town Hall, offering the chance to enjoy a range of board games.
Join in the fun on Saturday 16 November with sessions running in the morning (9.30am to 12.30pm) and the afternoon (2pm to 5pm).
Games will appeal to adults and teens alike and there are even some suitable for young children. Taster sessions of Dungeons & Dragons proved very popular earlier in the year and will be making a return with two tables instead of one this time.
Tickets are £4 per person and £12 for a group of four people.
Attend a drop-in session and tell us your views
We are continuing to develop a new Council Plan, a five-year plan that sets our strategic priorities for the borough.
This key strategic document ensures we have clear direction and covers essential services, infrastructure projects, community initiatives, as well as aspirations for making the borough as good as it can be.
Following consultation earlier this year, we are focusing on informal engagement sessions between now and the end of the year. These are a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts, ask questions, and engage directly with us.
Drop-in sessions will be held at:
- Wokingham Market, Market Place (RG40 1AS), Thursday 31 October, 9am to 3pm
- Lower Earley Library, Chalfont Close (RG6 5HZ), Monday 4 November, 2pm to 5pm
- Woodley Precinct, Crockhamwell Road (RG5 3JH), Friday 15 November, 9am to 4pm
- Twyford Library, Old Polehampton Boys School (RG10 9AD), Friday 22 November, 2pm to 5pm
- Woodley Library, Headley Road (RG5 4JA), Tuesday 3rd December, 10am to 12.30pm
We will use all of the thoughts gathered to develop a draft version of the Council Plan, which will be put out for formal consultation next year.
Helping others to recognise their rights as carers
Join us at the Oakwood Centre in Woodley on Friday 22 November as we celebrate Carers Rights Day.
The day aims to raise awareness about the rights and challenges of unpaid carers and this year's theme is about recognising your rights.
To help with this locally, the Wokingham Carers Partnership is hosting an event from 3.30pm to 7pm.
There will be guest speakers and organisations on hand to offer advice. You can also get one-to-one support from our Direct Payments and Preparing for Adulthood teams.
Enjoy friendly chat about how you can help the planet
Join the People, Planet, Pint team at The Rose Inn in Wokingham for their next get-together on Thursday 7 November at 6pm.
Part of a national initiative, this is an opportunity for people to learn more about sustainability and share their ideas. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their experience or background and the evening will mark the group's two-year anniversary.
The next meeting will feature a range of guest speakers, including Freely Fruity and Maya's Refillables.
It is free to attend, but places should be registered in advance. There is no agenda - simply turn up and join in the conversation, with the first drink free.
