Winter vaccination campaign set to get underway
The main flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaigns by the NHS began this month.
Getting vaccinated every year will top up your protection and reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms. You can get both vaccines if you:
- Are aged 65 and over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2025)
- Have certain health conditions
- Are pregnant
- Are a frontline health or social care worker
- Live in a care home for older adults
You can book a flu vaccination or Covid-19 vaccination appointment online or by using the NHS app.
Children aged two and three can get the children's flu vaccine at their GP surgery. School-aged children will get their vaccine through their school or a community clinic.
Planning ahead to protect and improve green space
The final draft of our , which sets out how the borough should grow and develop to 2040, includes a raft of measures to improve our natural environment.
As well as identifying suitable sites for housing and other types of development, as Local Green Spaces, 13 more areas as valued landscapes and six sites of urban landscape value.
This would ensure that their importance to our borough’s unique identity can be recognised in future planning decisions.
As part of the planned Loddon Valley Garden Village development to the south of the M4, the local plan also proposes new nature parks and a large new country park.
This would create more habitats for local wildlife while opening up substantial areas of land along the River Loddon and at Barkham Brook to the public for the first time.
Visit our for detailed information about the local plan, the role it will play in our future and the steps we’re taking to make it a reality.
Halloween parade bringing magic to Woodley
A free Halloween parade is coming to Woodley town centre on Thursday 31 October.
Organised by the Woodley Town Centre Partnership, the event runs from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on the centre stage in the precinct.
It will feature a children's entertainer with dancing and magic tricks, as well as a parade from the stage to Waitrose. There will also be music, stalls and a costume competition.
The town centre garden will be decorated into a ghoulish graveyard and there will be spot prizes along the parade, along with certificates to all children taking part to say they have been enrolled into the school of magic.
