 Fireworks spectacular is bigger and better than ever
A charity firework night is coming to Cantley Park in Wokingham on Saturday 2 November.
Organised by the Wokingham Fireworks Charitable Trust, the fun starts at 5.30pm when the funfair opens, which promises to be even bigger than before.
At around 6.15pm, a torchlight procession will walk from Market Place in the town centre to the playing fields, led by St Sebastian's Wokingham Band.
The fireworks are due to start at 7.30pm and there will be no tickets available on the gate. Tickets are £9 and £1 for children (seven or under).
The event is run entirely by volunteers and profits will go to the trust's nominated charities.
 Halloween parade bringing magic to Woodley
A free Halloween parade is coming to Woodley Town Centre on Thursday 31 October.
Organised by the Woodley Town Centre Partnership, the event runs from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on the centre stage in the precinct.
It will feature a children's entertainer with dancing and magic tricks, as well as a parade from the stage to Waitrose. There will also be music, stalls and a costume competition.
The town centre garden will be decorated into a ghoulish graveyard and there will be spot prizes along the parade, along with certificates to all children taking part to say they have been enrolled into the school of magic.
 Meet film stars, see props and displays at comic-con
A great day for families and sci-fi fans alike, Reading Comic-Con is returning to Loddon Valley Leisure Centre on Sunday 24 November.
The day, which runs from 10am to 5pm, is a chance to dress up, meet celebrities and comic book artists and pose for photos with the many props and displays.
Fans of Doctor Who will be particularly happy, as Katy Manning (Jo Grant) and John Leeson (K9) will be at the convention. There will also be appearances from Mike Quinn (Nien Nunb) and Brian Wheeler (Ewok) from the Star Wars films.
There will also be a Harry Potter broom green screen, Pokémon display and retro gaming zone.
Tickets start at £5 for children and £9 for adults, with a family ticket for two adults and two children priced at £25.
 Wokingham Children's Book Festival this weekend
Award-winning authors are coming to town this weekend (19 and 20 October) for the seventh edition of the Wokingham Children's Book Festival.
The festival is a chance to meet and listen to talks by authors of children’s books, as well as learn about the writing process and have fun.
It gets underway on Saturday at the Carnival Hub in Wokingham with a visit from Enchanted Players Theatre Company from 10.30am to 11.30am. The audience will be taken on a journey through a selection of Julia Donaldson's popular tales, with drama, puppets, props and music.
Sessions on Sunday will be held at Wokingham Town Hall and Wokingham Library, with a mixture of book readings, crafting and singing.
Authors attending this year's festival include A. F. Harrold, Steve Antony, Holly Webb, Eloise De Sousa and Nizrana Farook.
 Vibrant flavours and company await at curry night
Join The Link Visiting Scheme for a charity curry night at The Tamarind Tree in Wokingham.
The Peach Street restaurant is hosting the fundraising event from 6pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday 19 November.
It promises to be an evening of great food, vibrant company and lots of generosity. There will be a two-course dinner, raffle and silent auction, with all proceeds going to The Link.
For 25 years, The Link Visiting Scheme has brought vital, life-enhancing social connections to older people and volunteers in Wokingham Borough.
Tickets are priced at £22.50 per person and spaces are limited, so book now to be part of a memorable evening.
 Free tests for electric blankets and portable heaters
Make sure your electric blanket is safe to use this winter and get it tested at Wokingham Fire Station on Thursday 31 October.
Free checks are being carried out by the fire service and Trading Standards from 9am to 3.30pm, with no booking required.
Bring along your electric blanket and portable heater, along with any leads, controls and plugs. As well as the testing, you can access information about keeping safe when using these device and how to check for faults.
If you are unable to make this session, there is another one being held at Crowthorne Fire Station at the same time on Friday 1 November.
