 Help shape borough’s economic growth
You can help shape a strategy which supports the area’s economic growth.
We’re updating our Economic Development Strategy which sets out how to keep improving the borough’s economic prosperity through to 2030.
The draft is based on a thorough analysis of local economic performance data, as well our engagement with local business community to understand their needs, economic issues and growth opportunities.
You can read the full draft strategy on our Engage Wokingham website and give your comments by Tuesday 8 October.
This is different from our Town Centre Strategy, which will support our town and village centres to grow and thrive and is also open for residents’ responses. Take the survey to respond before Friday 4 October.
Volunteer to make a difference this winter
The Wokingham Volunteer Centre is holding a volunteer recruitment fair on Saturday 5 October from 10am to 1pm at Wokingham Town Hall.
Just turn up on the day and find out about dozens of local organisations where you could make a difference. Full list of organisations attending on the volunteer centre’s website.
You only need to give up a few hours a week and it’s a fantastic way to give back to your community.
If you would like to find out more about the event or discuss volunteering in general, call 0118 977 0749 or email volunteer@wok-vol.org.uk
Our new Local Plan, which sets out how the borough will grow and develop to 2040, will be discussed at a full council meeting this Thursday (19 September). You can read a summary of what’s in the plan and how we’re hoping to move it forward on our website, or you can read the meeting agenda for the full details.
Don't get caught out by parking scam texts
We're aware of a parking scam text circulating so please be cautious before following any links and submitting any information if you aren't certain who it's from.
This photo is an example of a scam text which was recently received by a local resident. Thankfully, they checked it out and blocked the number before sending us a screenshot to warn others.
We would not contact you by text for a parking penalty charge notice so if you get a text like this, please ignore it. You can also report a scam text by forwarding it to 7726.
Chat and learn as church hosts second Earth Fayre
All Saints Church in Wokingham is hosting an Earth Fayre on Saturday 28 September, following the success of last year's inaugural event.
Visit from 10am to 3pm and see the many stalls that will be taking part. There will also be a number of guest speakers, each with something important to say about the environment.
There will be children's activities, which entertain as well as inform them about the challenges we face to address the climate emergency.
It is free to attend and the café at All Saints Church will be open, serving hot drinks and cakes.
