Wokingham Borough Connect
California Cross now open
California Cross opened earlier this week ahead of the new September term.
The road is open in all directions to traffic and bus routes have returned to normal.
Work will continue at the parking bays outside the shops, but Avery Corner car park is also open for use.
Some extra works for resurfacing and to lay road markings will take place overnight (8pm to 6am) until the end of the month, so please take extra care in the meantime.
Look out for our California Cross updates newsletter for the latest information. You can sign up for updates and see previous newsletter editions on our website.
Thank you for your patience during the works and for supporting your local businesses.
Last week we told you about delays to SGN works in Earley.
SGN have now updated their page to share the latest information.
Reminder A329(M) overnight closures for resurfacing
Overnight closures for resurfacing on the A329(M) begin on Monday:
- From 9 to 12 September the road will be closed Bracknell-bound between 8pm and 6am, from Winnersh Triangle to Coppid Beech
- From 12 to 14 September, the road will be closed Reading-bound between 8pm and 6am, from Coppid Beech to Winnersh Triangle
The electric bus is coming
Leader of the council Cllr Stephen Conway and executive member for active travel, transport and highways Cllr Paul Fishwick had a behind the scenes look at a zero-emissions electric bus at a visit to the Reading Buses depot.
The bus is similar to a new fleet of 24 electric vehicles bought by the company following a successful bid to the Government earlier this year, which we supported.
The new buses, expected to enter our network on Route 21 during the winter of 2025/26, will support our ambition to reduce carbon emissions in the borough by providing a cleaner active travel option.
During the visit they were also given a tour by Robert Williams, CEO of Reading Buses, and shown the live workings of running the bus network across the area. This included an active map of bus running times and how the fleet of buses are maintained to keep them to a high standard and safe for passengers.
