Pension Credit could help you access thousands
You may be eligible for Pension Credit but not be claiming it.
Checking if you meet the criteria could mean you can get Winter Fuel Payments this year, which the Government has changed eligibility criteria for.
Pension Credit is worth, on average, £3,900 per year and unlocks other additional support including help with Council Tax, NHS dental care and for those older than 75, a free TV licence.
Even if you have modest savings, a retirement income or own your home, you could still get Pension Credit. Check your eligibility online.
Extend your Child Benefit claim for your teen today
With the new school term starting this week, parents are being reminded to extend their Child Benefit claim if their 16 to 19-year-old is staying in full-time non-advanced education or approved training.
HMRC sent 1.4 million letters between 24 May and 17 July to parents, explaining how to extend their claim. If you haven’t received a letter, there’s no need to worry.
You can still extend your Child Benefit via the HMRC app or online where eligible.
For parents who can’t extend their Child Benefit online, you can still do so by post or by phone.
Save on childcare costs
The new school term means your childcare needs may have changed.
The Government’s Childcare Choices website can help you see how to save money on your costs. Enter your details to help find out how you can save.
This Friday – debt help and advice
Our teams will be at Norreys Church in Wokingham Friday (6 September) to help residents with debt.
They will be available from 12 noon to 2.30pm. These events are free to attend and booking is encouraged but not required. They run monthly, on the first Friday of each month.
Sessions are aimed specifically at helping anyone who has debts owed to the council and we will be able to signpost you to local organisations which could help.
Visit the Eventbrite page if you are interested in finding out more and to book a place.
Household Support Fund - current round closes soon
There's still the chance to apply for up to £140 support if you're struggling with food, bills and other essentials.
The current round of the Government's Household Support Fund closes at the end of September.
If you've not had any financial support from this fund since April, there's still time to apply. Don't apply again if you've already received support.
There's also specific support available for families where children receive means-tested free school meals.
