Early bird prize for Cycle September
Our borough boasts beautiful countryside with scenic off-road and road routes for cyclists. You can earn rewards while exploring all of them on your bike.
Sign up for the annual Cycle September challenge by 31 August to win a £1,000 cash prize!
The aim of Cycle September is to get more people to enjoy the benefits of riding bikes. You can ride anywhere, anytime in September to participate.
All you have to do is register and start logging your trips - which you can do all year round as part of the Love to Ride campaign, but there are loads of extra rewards for doing it in September.
In addition to the early bird prize, there is a grand cash prize of £2,000 and a prize draw for those who encourage others to sign up, as well as workplace prizes and goodies like sweaters, T-shirts and more.

Dates confirmed for term time activities
Our popular 'Forest School' and 'Dinton Mini Rangers' programmes are set to return to Dinton Pastures in September.
Forest School
Designed for children aged six to nine, the programme turns nature into a classroom on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Its six-week 'curriculum' covers a range of educational outdoor activities, so children will take part in something new every time they come, such as exploring insects and small creatures, discovering pond wildlife, and learning about trees.
The programme will also give children exciting adventures through orienteering, shelter building and fire lighting sessions.
Programme dates are available online. You can book your child for individual sessions or take advantage of a discount when booking all six sessions.
Dinton Mini Rangers
The programme offers a 60-minute adventure to children aged two to five every Saturday.
They will be able to use their creativity in building outdoor hideaways ('Den Building'); crafting their own unique mud pictures on a tree ('Mud Faces') and challenging themselves to find what's hidden in the park ('Nature Scavenger Hunt').
With a rotating activity schedule, every session is a new adventure for our young nature enthusiasts.
Booking is now open online. Please note parental supervision is require during the sessions.
The schedule of our Special Education Needs (SEN) and autism family friendly indoor climbing sessions at Dinton Activity Centre from September onwards have also been confirmed. These sessions will be held in small groups, with no more than five people, and will be conducted without background music. Booking is now available online.
Float in water to save lives
Follow the advice of Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK) and stay safe whenever you are around water:
-
Stop and think: take time to assess your surroundings. Look for any dangers and always research local signs and advice
-
Stay together: always go with friends and family, and swim at a lifeguarded venue
-
Call 999: ask for the Fire and Rescue Service when inland and the Coastguard if at the coast. Don't enter the water to rescue
-
Float: stay calm, float on your back and call for help. Throw something that floats to somebody who has fallen in
Float to live
Knowing how to float in water could save your life, or someone else's. There are five simple steps you can follow to learn to float in water:
- Tilt your head back with ears submerged
- Relax and try to breath normally
- Move your hands to help you stay afloat
- Once you are over the initial shock, call for help or swim to safety
- In an emergency call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard
Share the information with your friends and family. For more, visit the Royal National Lifeboat Institution website.
Last but not least...
Come and try open water swimming in the Black Swan Lake of Dinton Pastures, available on weekends from 9am to 10am.
