 Proposals to improve California Country Park
New plans are in hand to improve one of the most well-used parks in Wokingham Borough to provide residents with better, more accessible leisure facilities while building a greener borough with richer biodiversity.
The council is proposing to enhance the lakeside, a popular visitor spot, and other areas frequently used by residents in California Country Park in Finchampstead.
Proposals for the lakeside area include building a paved seating area, picnic areas with spaces for wheelchairs and a timber deck extending to the lake for water bird viewing, as well as planting wildflowers for bird foraging.
Improvements to other areas include building new surfaced footpaths to the lakeside, playground and woodland picnic areas; creating a flowering lawn and new plantings; and turning the existing historic well building into a visitor information point.

 Community Safety
Wokingham Borough is one of the safest places in the country to live, work and visit and we’re proud of that. We know that while most residents haven't been directly affected by crime, you may still have concerns about your personal safety and that of your family and friends.
Our annual survey seeks residents’ views and experiences on a number of areas, including how well people in their community get on together, crime and anti-social behaviour.
There is also an opportunity as part of the survey to shape our new domestic abuse strategy and to join a ‘Hearing the Voices’ project, which seeks to understand and tackle violence against women and girls.
 SEND and Inclusion Strategy 2024-2029
Our draft SEND and Inclusion Strategy 2024-2029 sets out our plan to improve outcomes for children and young people aged 0 to 25 with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
This looks at all areas of the SEND system including local authority services, schools, health partners and the voluntary sector.
It has been developed with children and young people with SEND, their parents and carers, schools, health services and partner organisations which will also support the creation and delivery of action plans.
 All-ages Autism Strategy 2024-2029
Our draft All-ages Autism Strategy 2024-2029, jointly owned with Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board, sets out a shared vision for supporting autistic people living in the borough. From it, we will create action plans that we develop and deliver with autistic people, their carers and partners.
It includes the principles of how we will work with partners, including being accountable, being guided by autistic people and leading change alongside the priorities it sets. These priorities include starting, living and aging well, improving health outcomes and the criminal justice system.
