Come to our BIG GATHERING 2024
Would you like to be part of a group committed to seeing real change in social care?
Come along to our supportive and inclusive event on Thursday 18 July, to celebrate what’s been achieved in the last year and plan together what we want to change for the future. We will be also be learning and having some fun!
In the coming weeks, we will share some more details about what will be happening on the day.
Places are limited and must be booked, email GetInvolved@wokingham.gov.uk or call (0118) 977 8600.
Our community event: Living the lives we want to lead
This week, we held the last of our community conversations about the Social Care Future vision. Residents, community groups and people who work at the council in different teams came together to talk and to listen.
We started by comparing what gets us out of bed in the morning – the fun stuff and the ordinary stuff. A lot of us said coffee, pets, children or parents!
We then shared what helps us live the lives we want and what gets in the way, so we can see what we need to change. Some people wanted a bigger choice of activities that are accessible. Other people shared how they found it hard to get into town to see their friends.
Family carers told us they find it hard to find time to look after their own health and wellbeing. We are about to explore this topic in more detail next month as part of our carer’s project. If you want to be involved, email GetInvolved@wokingham.gov.uk.
What next?
At our Big Gathering event, we are going to share a summary of what we’ve heard in these conversations. We'll start looking changes we can make locally to fix the things which aren’t working.
There will be more chances share your views later this summer - we will give more information in a future newsletter.
Accessible toilet installed at Dinton Activity Centre
A new fully accessible toilet has been installed at Dinton Activity Centre in Hurst so more people can enjoy the outdoors at Dinton Pastures.
The Changing Places toilet is now open on the ground floor of the centre, improving and adapting an existing disabled toilet. This is in addition to the accessible toilet facilities already at the main car park and visitor centre.
You can explore Dinton Pastures along the footpaths, including woods, meadows and lakes. The park is accessible every day of the year, with car parks open every day. You can download a PDF copy of the Dinton Pastures map to help you make the most of your visit to this beautiful location.
The locations of other Changing Places toilets can be found online.
Don't forget to register to vote and have your say
The general election will take place on Thursday 4 July and polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.

If you are not registered, you can register to vote online. It only takes five minutes and you will be asked for your date of birth and national insurance number if you have one. You must register to vote by 11.59pm on Tuesday 18 June.
