Award-winning tech firm is on cloud nine
A technology firm based at Winnersh Triangle Business Park has won a top honour for its outstanding contributions to international trade.
Bexprt has been presented with a King’s Award for Enterprise, which are awarded on the Prime Minister's recommendation and with His Majesty's approval.
These are awarded to companies that succeed in the fields of innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting social mobility.
Bexprt has clients across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America, and employs more than 30 technology experts globally. It provides cloud-based services to help companies solve problems and transform how they operate.
Founded in 2018, and with a wholly owned subsidiary and regional office in Saudi Arabia, an exceptional 90 per cent of its revenues are from international trade.
Founder and CEO Mo Hamdy said: “I'm absolutely thrilled that the Bexprt team has been selected for this prestigious award. It's a huge honour for any company and I'm truly astonished and humbled that we've achieved this together."
Artistic map leads the way to town businesses
Wokingham town's first artistic map is proving very popular with visitors and residents since launching a month ago.
The work, produced by local artist Vic Delaney and commissioned by town centre gallery owner Richard Young, features 39 independent businesses who contributed towards the project.
Some 50,000 have been printed, each folding down to a handy pocket size, and they are also displayed in participating businesses. The map also includes signposts to a number of attractions outside the town.
Copies are also displayed in some hotel receptions, the town hall and local libraries.
Mr Young said: 'We created the map to raise awareness of a diverse selection of independent businesses and attractions, both for residents and visitors.
"We're thrilled with the feedback we've had and thankful to everyone who's picked one up. We're lucky to have such a vibrant community of independent businesses and this is a great way to help more people discover them."
Make a difference in Volunteers' Week and beyond
To mark the 40th annual Volunteers' Week, we're reminding businesses that there are lots of volunteering opportunities in our borough.
The need for volunteering in our community remains as strong as ever, and we’re just as keen to talk to businesses about this as we are to our residents.
Whatever your size, placements can be matched to the needs of the working week and it's a fantastic chance for you and your staff to make a real difference.
We're supported by the Wokingham Volunteer Centre, who work on behalf of several local charities who are seeking help responding to the cost of living crisis.
To get involved, you can contact them directly or email us.
Help is at hand for working carers
According to Carers UK, who are organising this month's Carers' Week, one in seven working people are now caring for someone older, ill or disabled.
Without the right support, one in six of these unpaid carers eventually give up or reduce their working hours - including many experienced older staff.
If you or your colleagues are carers and could benefit from support, there are helpful resources available - including information on unpaid parental leave, balancing work and caring, and laws on unpaid leave and flexible working.
The theme for Carers' Week 2024 is Putting Carers on the Map, which aims to raise awareness of this issue and the challenges that unpaid carers face while helping them get the support they need.
