Wheelie great start for bin delivery crews
We’re still on track to deliver more than 60,000 black wheeled rubbish bins to households across the borough as part of our upcoming waste collection changes.
Hard-working crews from Jett Distribution are now assembling and delivering up to 1,000 bins a day. To see them in action, check out our short video.
They won’t reach all households until late July, so please be patient – and don’t use your bin as soon as it arrives, as it won’t be emptied until the service changes in mid-August.
Your collection day won’t change, but your rubbish and recycling will be collected every two weeks – rubbish from the new bin one week, recycling from green bags the next. Food waste collections will stay weekly.
We’ll post a leaflet with more information soon, including a calendar with a full year of rubbish and recycling collection weeks. You’ll also be able to check these on our website.
Get ready now for a greener future
Make sure you’ve got enough green recycling bags for when the service changes – you can pick them up free of charge from collection hubs across the borough. Up to four green bags should be enough for most households.
It’s also worth reducing how much waste you create, as well as looking at ways to reuse items, as this is even better for the environment than recycling.
We encourage everyone to get a free food waste bin if they don’t have one, as this is where there’s most room to increase how much waste we recycle.
Remember – 70 per cent of what gets thrown away in Wokingham Borough is recyclable, but we only recycle 55 per cent. That’s a fantastic figure nationally, but we know we can do better.
A new repair café is opening soon
A new repair café is due to open in Earley later this year!
Led by the Earley Town Council, the latest community project needs your help to get it up and running.
Volunteers are being sought to take up roles including repairers, receptionists and helpers in the café. If you are interested in taking part, complete the Volunteer Application Form and return it to the town council by email or post.
The new repair café will take place in the morning of the second Sunday of the month at Centrepoint community centre in Chalfont Square.
Upcoming repair café sessions
Save the date for the upcoming repair cafes, if you need to have anything fixed. All repairs are free, but donations are welcomed.

Did you know?
Can I recycle paper coffee cups in my green bags?
No. The thin, plastic coating inside coffee cups is extremely difficult to be separated from the cups, meaning the cups can't be recycled as paper nor plastic. The lids are mostly made of low-quality plastic, so can't be recycled either.
Why not bring your own cup to save money and reduce waste next time when you go buy a coffee!
Next re3 Reuse Pop-up Shop
Pick up a pre-loved bargain at the next re3 Reuse Pop-up Shop on Saturday 15 June, from 8am to 12pm, at re3 recycling centre in Bracknell (RG12 1RL). There's no need to book a slot!
Items for sale are in good condition and suitable for re-use, including toys, furniture, sport equipment, bicycles and garden tools. They were all brought to the re-use corner at the two re3 recycling centres by residents in the areas covered by re3.
All money raised by re3 from the sales will go to Sue Ryder, a national charity providing bereavement support to those in need.
