What's coming up
As we look to move to phase two next week, paving and kerb lines within the current closure will be completed this week and new lamp columns will be installed early next week, within the same area.
A raised pedestrian crossing point located outside the Ratepayers Hall will also be completed next week before the switch over which will mark the completion of phase one of this improvement project.
Signage will be in place in regards to changes to road closures and diversion routes and further details can be found in our phase two article below.
 What's been happening
The team has continued to install block paving between Londis Red Oak Store and the California Ratepayers Hall and the footways and kerb lines are really starting to take shape. Drainage works for phase one are now complete.
They have also been making preparations for the phase two switch over on 23 May, liaising with local businesses, schools and bus companies to ensure a smooth transition.
 Phase two starts 23 May
From 23 May, we plan to move into phase two of the crossroad improvement project and the sections of Nine Mile Ride and Finchampstead Road that are currently closed will reopen.
We then plan to close Finchampstead Road from Wild Acres Rest Home to the crossroads but access to Avery car park and adjacent shops will remain open from the Wild Acres Rest Home.
Nine Mile Ride will also be closed from the junction of Wick Hill Lane to the crossroads. This change over will happen between 10pm on Wednesday 22 May and 5am on Thursday 23 May.
Access will be maintained to residential properties within the closure. Further details on the road closure and diversion routes can be found on our website and signage will be in place along the diversion routes.
 Bus diversions
Bus diversions for Reading buses and Thames Valley Buses will remain the same as we transition from phase one to phase two on 23 May.
Bus companies will continue to serve as much of their routes in the area as possible. However, some locations will remain temporarily closed for the duration of the project.
For the latest information about diversions and changes to bus stop locations throughout the project, please visit Reading buses and Thames Valley Buses websites.
Thames Valley Buses diverted route utilises Foxcote and Kiln Ride, with a replacement stop still in operation along Windsor Ride.
Information regarding bus routes is available to view on both Reading buses and Thames Valley Buses websites for the duration of the scheme.
Stagecoach, who provide a bus service for local school children, are working out their revised route and pick up/drop off points. They will be posting updates on their website prior to 23 May and have advised that pick up times may be slightly earlier and drop offs slightly later, to allow them extra time.
Stagecoach can be contacted directly on 0345 241 8000 Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm.
 Supporting your local businesses
Just a reminder that all your local businesses remain open throughout the improvement project. Please do continue to support your local businesses throughout this improvement project.
Although access to these businesses by road will change from 23 May, as we head into phase two of this project, parking is still available at Avery Car Park via Jubilee Road and pedestrian access is available to all businesses at all times.
