Phase one of project nears completion
Phase one of the California Cross project is nearing completion and from 23 May, we plan to move into phase two. The sections of Nine Mile Ride and Finchampstead Road that are currently closed will reopen.
We then plan to close Finchampstead Road from Wild Acres Rest Home to the crossroads and Nine Mile Ride will be closed from the junction of Wick Hill Lane to the crossroads.
Access will be maintained to residential properties within the closure. Further details on the road closure and diversion routes can be found on our website and signs will be in place along the diversion routes.
Work so far
During phase one, a new drainage system has been installed, new kerb lines are in place and block paving has been laid.
Much of the work carried out was underground, aiming to reduce issues caused by leaking pipes in the future.

 Delays to footbridge in Wokingham
Network Rail have confirmed that the completion of the Tan House footbridge in Wokingham has been delayed due to the steelwork fabricator appointed to build the steps going into administration.
Discussions are taking place and we will provide a further update once available.
 Walk to School week
Next week is 'Walk to School Week', encouraging children across the borough to travel to school in an active way.
Walk to School Week takes place from 20 May to 24 May and participating schools will receive wall charts, stickers and activity booklets.
Each time you walk, cycle or scoot to school you need to log your journeys on the wallchart in your classroom and remember to check out your activity booklet.
If you can't walk to school, then you can take part by parking a short distance from school and walking to school. You only need to walk for five minutes to take part.

Helping you travel safely
Our licensing team worked with colleagues from Thames Valley Police in a joint operation to carry out checks on taxi drivers and their vehicles on Friday 26 April.
It was an opportunity to engage with drivers as well as ensure their vehicles were safe and legal to drive. 20 to 30 drivers were spoken to throughout the evening, some were stopped while driving and others were spoken to while stationary at taxi ranks.
Two fixed penalty notices were issued for road traffic offences and two warnings were given. Our licensing team were able to check taxi licenses and details on the spot.
If you have any concerns regarding taxi drivers or their vehicles please email licensing@wokingham.gov.uk Any crimes should be reported on the Thames Valley Police website or by calling 101. You should call 999 if a crime is in progress or there is a risk to life.
