New open water swimming and half-term activities
The Dinton Activity Centre team is getting ready for the warmer and sunnier weather ahead, with a wide range of activities lined up for visitors of all ages.
Two new activities are launching this month and it is never too early to secure your place.
Open water swimming
From Saturday 11 May, you can have a leisurely and picturesque swim in the Black Swan Lake of Dinton Pastures Country Park in Hurst at weekends.
It costs £7 per person and the minimum age for open water swimming is 14. Anyone aged below 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Book online in advance.
Teen Adventures
We have a new programme designed for young people aged 14 to 17, which runs during school holidays.
Teen Adventures offers a range of our popular land and water activities. Each session is three hours long and costs £32 per person.
Booking is now open online for the sessions during May half-term and summer holidays.
Magic, animals and more at annual children's fun day
A children's fun day is being held at Langborough Recreation Ground in Wokingham on Saturday 25 May.
Every year, Wokingham Town Council organise a free fun day for local children. Activities have included face painting, magic shows, a mobile farm, fairground rides and crafts.
The event is suitable for children up to the age of 10. If you are coming by car, you are advised to park in the town centre and walk to the recreation ground.
Former police officer giving talk on successful series
One of the most successful writers of crime fiction, Jonathan Cox, is giving a talk on Friday 17 May about his eight-book collection: The Nostrils Series.
Having retired from the Metropolitan Police in 2013, he has enjoyed best-selling success for his work.
The series follows the life of PC Chris Pritchard, also known as Nostrils, who joined the Met in 1983 and - like the author - was posted to a police station in London's tough East End. Each subsequent book is set several years later and collectively they trace the main character's career.
Join us at Wokingham Library from 10.30am to 11.30am to hear more about the series as Jonathan shares insights from his creative process, as well as fascinating stories from his life in the police service. This event is free to attend, but places must be booked.
University invites you to visit free community festival
The Community Festival is returning to the Whiteknights Campus of the University of Reading for the second year on Saturday 18 May.
It is a free family-friendly event for the local community and brings together residents, alumni, researchers, community groups and small businesses.
The day runs from 11am to 5pm and includes live music, theatre and performance, workshops, sporting activities, community stands, a craft market, street food and a range of research-related activities and talks.
You can register your interest to get early-bird access for workshops and bookable activities.
