What's new at Dinton Pastures
Our Dinton Activity Centre team is getting ready for the warmer and sunnier weather ahead, with a wide range of activities lined up for visitors of all ages.
What's more - two new activities will be launching next month! It's never too soon to book and secure a place.
Open water swimming
From Saturday 11 May, you can have a leisurely and picturesque swim in the Black Swan Lake of Dinton Pastures during weekends.
To ensure swimmers' safety, there will be a designated swimming area marked by large buoys. A shallow shelving beach will be available for an easy entry, and safety cover will be provided by qualified staff. You are required to bring your own high-vis swim hat and tow floats.
Minimum age for open water swimming is 14. Anyone aged below 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Book online before you go.
Teen Adventures
We have a new programme designed for young people aged 14 to 17 during school holidays.
Teen Adventures offers a range of our popular land and water activities, all with an added twist, so participants can rediscover thrills and adventure.
For example, guided by our instructors, they will have a chance to survive the wilderness with advanced bush craft skills or feel the excitement of a zipwire from towering high ropes.
Each session is three hours long and costs £32 per person. Booking is now open online for the sessions during May half term and summer holidays.
Brand new look for Woodley play parks
The playgrounds at Ashenbury Park and Sandford Park, both in Woodley, have been re-opened with a brand new look.
They've had a colourful upgrade, with new play and climbing equipment, new surfacing and improved drainage.
The team wanted to make sure the playgrounds were more accessible, so the old bark pits have been replaced and interactive and accessible equipment included, with our special educational needs and disabilities team involved in both designs and helping choose the equipment.
Both parks have increased equipment available for older children, with a more complex climbing unit at Sandford playground and seesaw and spinning dish at Ashenbury playground.
For more information about visiting the parks, or any other nature park in the borough, visit our webpage for maps, how to get there and more.
Choo choo...Time for a train ride
Pinewood Miniature Railway is welcoming visitors to come and have a ride this Sunday (21 April), from 1.30pm to 4pm.
Located at Pinewood Leisure Centre just south of Wokingham, the railway has been operating for nearly 30 years, offering a great experience for families. The trains run for nearly half a mile through a woodland setting and depart every few minutes.
There's no advanced booking, so just turn up on the day. Rides cost £1.50 each, or you can purchase a multi-ride ticket, which gives four rides. Children under three travel free.
If you are unable to attend on this date, the railway is open on the third Sunday of the month through to October.
Get involved in supporting nature
You've still got time to sign up for a community workshop to find out how you can support nature in our borough. It's free to join.
The workshop will take place this Saturday (20 April) at Maiden Place Community Centre (RG6 3HD). There will be a range of presentations, small group discussions, activities and an optional walk around Earley Wildlife Corridor.
By joining the workshop, you will learn more about local nature recovery strategies, a nationwide initiative by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to reverse the continuing decline of British wildlife.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is leading on preparing a local nature recovery strategy for Berkshire, supported by other local authorities including us. Community workshops are being held across the county, so everyone has a chance to get involved.
