Wokingham Borough Connect
Works on schedule
The new and improved crossroads are taking shape, with work on track to create an attractive village centre for everyone, including an improved road infrastructure.
These improvements will create an appealing and safe centre that works well for people walking, cycling or driving.
The condition of the road and overall quality of the footpaths meant the junction would have needed investment soon. This is why work taking place includes replacing and upgrading infrastructure like drainage and gullies to ensure that major upheaval isn’t needed in the near future.
Once the work is complete, there will be a three-year protection to stop utility companies digging up the road except in an emergency. This, along with the new drainage and tarmac, should mean a long period where the crossroads will not experience any roadworks.
The project is going well and on schedule to have the roads re-opened in early summer.
What's coming up
Drainage works are continuing next week along Finchampstead Road outside Londis and Bob's Fish and Chip Shop. We have arranged for access to their car park to remain in place during this section of work.
We have also now taken delivery of the new kerb stones which will allow us to start work on the new footway.
What's been happening so far
We have now finished digging out all the drainage network along Nine Mile Ride and have installed the remaining new pipework and manholes. A further eight gullies and four manholes have also been installed this week.
Ninety per cent of trenches have been back filled and resurfaced allowing vehicle access into properties on Nine Mile Ride. This resurfacing work will be temporary, with permanent resurfacing of the crossroads taking place overnight towards to the end of the project.
Update on roadworks in the area
SGN will be working under 2-way lights on Finchampstead Road, Wokingham, near the junction with Hart Dyke Close to continue their works to repair a leaking gas main. These works are expected to finish on 25 March.
